Would have bought this if it wasn't for the processor . I think I3 should be the minimum standard now.
#8
Looks a good deal ? Interesting that it is only the red model that is reduced. A fashion issue ??
#9
I've reserved one in Harrogate but not going to be able to get there in time so let me know if anyone wants the res number

I got the Asus X401 a when argos had it on at £200 turns out 90% of them where faulty and to get any sort of refund from Asus they have to sell them all and then after customers return them as faulty only then do they get their money bk so beware seems like a good deal but so did the other one

"90% of them were faulty...." really, how did you come up with that statistic.

I have one of those which I bought from Argos (and am using it now). What was the fault ?

Good deal but note these boards even have onboard ram (i think 2gb but may be 4) could be that 6gb is the absolute maximum depending on the chipset limit

I think you mean 'installed' as opposed to 'onboard'

I am looking for a basic student laptop. Should I go for this or the Dell Inspiron 15 deal posted yesterday? What is the difference between them?
#22

This has more RAM (6gb v 4gb), the HDD is twice as big and the processor is marginally better.

It's a better laptop but not by a massive amount.

Even if not showing stock in your store if there is any stock at warehouse etc, you should be able to order for collection in store.

i've been looking for a laptop for some time now and i love this red-my favourite colour-but i've loads ppl tell me to stear clear of windows 8/8.1 (i'm still using XP).the only problem is the win 7 laptops i've come across are all refurbished and i don't really want to go down that road especially with it being my first laptop.any suggestions???
#27
Try out Windows 8 and see if you like it. If not, just install Classic Shell and you'll have the familiar menu system back.
#28
just checked that classic shell out on youtube and it looks good

only problem is that there is no stock-and none for home delivery

Decent spec, these are horrible laptops though, terrible touchpad and the build quality is a joke. You can flex the chassis on this laptop quite easily because it's thin. The keyboard is horrible too. This feels like it's made by Fisher Price but not as well built. If this was £50 I'd buy it so I could hit it with a mallet.

8.1 update 1 is fine, no reason not to use it. Many people who use Windows 8.1 are thick and don't realise there's a desktop, so they see the tiles and panic. XP is well out of date and unsupported since April 8th 2014.

any laptop that runs 8 should run 7, you'd just have trouble with features such as touchscreen if it comes with that

thank you for your comments.i think after the problem of there being no stock and the comment about build quality ( i went on to read lots of reviews in google afterwards) i'm going to give this one a miss.shame cos it looks ok and is a good price so i'll KEEP looking in here!!! and i will give windows 8 a go cos i can get that classic shell thingy.

thanks very much for your help
#33
