Sorry I think the recently posted Acer from Argos is a better spec. for exactly the same price.

The G102M is rather lackluster compared to the 9600M GT, and the 100mhz difference in CPU clock speed will make little difference to most tasks.
Also, it looks like the Argos deal *might* have an undocumented BD-Rom drive too!
#2
The fact its preinstalled with Windows 7 is the main difference I would say.

I would certainly take an Asus over an Acer.

Although agreed, the overall spec for gaming etc on the acer is probably better due to the graphics card.
#3
ebuyer had this deal for £399.99, but all sold out now it seem

The acer has 1gb gddr2 graphics clocked at 400mhz, which is better than the G102. The processor on the Asus is faster, has a slightly bigger hard drive and comes from a more reuputable brand. The Asus is 15.6" compared to 16" on the Acer. The Acer has 2.5 hrs max battery life compared to 3 hrs on this Asus. If you have any questions on the Acer 6930g dont hesitate to pm me, had it for nearly 1 year and no problems. Windows 7>Vista but im using windows 7 64 bit on the Acer only problem is with windows 7 on the acer the touch sensitive voume buttons dont work so you have to change the volume in windows or via your speakers.

I've just picked this up from the argos in Heanor.

The processor is actually the T6600 which is the best CPU in its class http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core2+Duo+T6600+%40+2.20GHz

It's basically this machine but with a better gfx card.

Ebuyer have it at £557 with an inferior gfx card

Now this one's a tempting prospect! I'd like Windows 7 rather than Vista, and there's little chance I'll ever play games on it (being an Xbox fan). I'm also slightly put off by the comments about Acer's build quality. My daughters can be a bit heavy handed! I'd have liked a HDMI socket, or am I wishing for too much at this price?

It doesn't say what graphics card it is just 'dedicated' , I h8 it when companies miss one of the important info.

according to the spec for this model on the Toshiba website, the graphics are integrated not dedicated.

I bought this Asus today. It seems good enough. T6600, not T6500 as stated.

Nice one :)

I'm happy so far too.

Also worth noting that this is preinstalled with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit too
#13
Thanks OP, rep for you!
What does all this stuff mean? Should I worry about the Graphics score of 1?

#14
Is this from your machine or the internet?

My score for that is 4.8
#15
Have you run Windows update?

That brought up a 82MB NVIDIA driver download for me amongst 12 or so critical security updates. I may have checked my score after that was downloaded. It could get Windows to recognise your full driverset.

:x

It's from my machine!
#17
Run Windows update see if that fixes it. Must be a driver issue.

I have one reserved in the Partic Glasgow Argos until the end of tomorrow (the last one in that shop) but have bought one from Argos clearance on ebay (£387.98 inc shipping) so if anyone wants the code then let me know
#19
Good skills djdaley, it's now up to 4.4
#20
No worries :)

Glad it's sorted

i did buy laptop from argos last year, now i want this one!
#22
I finished downloading the updates and now the figures read thus:

For anyone who's interested!
#23
I picked up one of these a couple of days ago and first impressions are that it's a cracking laptop. Battery life is good and seems to last well even in heavy use. I get the same scores as above but a 6.3 for RAM (I guess because I am running less aps on it at the moment). For the spec against comparatives this deserves more heat!

grt find,
#25
Theres an Acer with all this has and more at 399.
This has a core duo, the eBuyer one has a Pentium dual core - both 2.1.
The eBuyer has a 500gb as opposed to this 320gb
Both have Windows 7 x64
Am I missing something here ?
#26
Can anyone confirm that the ones on ebay (argos clearance) come with a T6600 (that sounds like something out of The Terminator) I was going to see how much arrandale's would be, probably out my my price range though

That ebuyer one has a slower processor and no dedicated graphics.

Does anyone know if the difference between a Intel core 2 Duo T6500 and Intel Pentium Dual Core T4300 2.1GHz is just the cache size?
#27
1366x768 screen, meh :-(
#28
sister got the acer one from ebuyer, very nice looking laptop.
#29
Cannot find any stock in my area have reserved one about 40 miles away in Bridgend just need to find out what time they shut as its' New Years Day.

Was off to PC World today to help my mother get a laptop cannot find ANYTHING that comes close to this for the price.

Cheers.

Acer = rubbish, you get what you pay for, cheap components.. NO customer service when things go wrong, which they will. ;-)
#38
does the hdmi output on this laptop deliver sound? The graphics card on nvidia website implies an additional spdif connection is required from the motherboard.
