I think that is a different model at Curry's.

I'm a bit torn regarding this tablet. On one hand, the screen and dimensions are good. On the other, the tech radar review says its on Lollipop with only 2GB of RAM. The intel CPU could making rooting an issue if you want to run Lineage or a custom rom.

I purchased two Z580c tablets from Currys for Christmas. Was the 32GB model, so possibly different to these. The tablets perform really well, look and feel great (also in the BOBJ cases as linked from OP) but I am in the process of returning them as they have both independently developed issues with the screens going white and lagging/freezing until they are flexed slightly - which I'm putting down to a loose connection inside somewhere. Disappointing, but will get replacement units, as otherwise they perform really well.

These weren't sold out, they are end of the line products, asus has released a newer model, hughes must have found some old stock somewhere which they can't return to the supplier anymore, heated though

there is a marshmallow update (later ones actually come with it preinstalled)

mines started to get a bit slow and usually as a first step id go to recovery menu and delete/format the cache partition
you cant do that on these for some reason its just not in the menu only a full format
think you can root to overcome but not looked much further
i assume backup with helium reformat and restore would do instead?

Thanks for the info ontheqt.

Does it have root and Lineage? How is the bloat? Can you uninstall/disable it?

I haven't played with any of those things or touched the bloatware. Running a kids shell on it with restricted apps. You could try king root?

In order to upgrade to android 6.0.1 you need to manually download the firmware and install it by putting the zip on the internal memory https://www.asus.com/Tablets/ASUS_ZenPad_S_80_Z580C/HelpDesk_Download/

My bad, didn't see your comment. The new model is z581, same name, it can be found on the Amazon.de website, for some reason, they dropped the metal chassis in favour of a plastic one :/
