Credit to Elevation for the original deal a month ago that was £15 more. I reserved (but didn't buy) then and I'm glad I held on, but that made me look into the tablet and realise how good it was for the price. Cheaper than the 16GB version.

From Elevation's original thread:

Updates to Marshmallow

Gorilla Glass screen

2K display

2GB RAM

32GB Internal memory

Front facing dual speakers

A bit expensive for only 2GB Ram in my book. I wouldn't pay more than £100.

Honest question - do you have a link to a better device for the price? I ask as I'm happy to get a different device if you can get better for this price.

Dammit, was looking at this 2 weeks ago, but decided on the Huawei m2 8.0 instead... Heat added anyway as was pretty impressed when I went to see it.

I have no idea how to find th best deal and Im not a gadget girl but Id like to get a table on Black Friday or Boxing Day..Any suggestions? I would appreciate your help :)

(older ones can upgrade though)

Cheers. Bought the white 16gb version of this last week for £150! That's going back and one of these ordered!

The screen on this is awesome. Almost as sharp as my iPad which cost 5 times as much!

Edit: Just to add, my 16GB version came with Marshmallow despite Currys website saying lollipop. Think it's hit/miss depending on when it was made. There's an official upgrade to Marshmallow available anyway.

Edited By: bma1445 on Nov 21, 2016 20:59: Marshmallow info.

Are ASUS any good at providing security updates?
1 Like #18

Depends on your needs.

The Samsung has hardly any storage (8G so 3 or 4GB will be available, expandable with SD but not all apps support that (Sky for example)).

Samsung obviously has data/SIM card slot, which the Asus doesn't.

The Asus has a *much* better screen. Think going from an iPhone 3G to an iPhone 4 in screen quality difference.

IMO I'd pay a few quid more and get the Asus with a 4G wifi thingy, purely for the screen.

Thanks for your reply and your honest opinion ! I appreciate it! Actually, the Asus deal is better as the Samsung is more expensive..... Do you know any other Black Friday tablets deals worth attention? Should I get a tablet on Black Friday or wait and see the deals during Boxing Day?

Asus make a version of this tablet with a faster processor (2.3Ghz), more RAM (4GB), better wi-fi (dual band AC), more storage (64GB), better cameras, stylus support and USB-C charging - I'd happily pay £250 for that spec, but they just don't seem to want to sell it to the UK :(

Got my 32gb - it has a much faster cpu than the 16gb even though currys list it as the same, it has the 1.8 z3560 instead of the 1.3 z3530

Seems like a great deal for a well reviewed tablet, ticks all the boxes for me so ordered 2. Cheers OP.

The Nexus 7 2013 will at least be on par with this performance wise. It's smaller though, but cheaper. Its running Android 6.0.1 and will get security updates from google for roughly the next year.

It depends which model you have? If you have the Gpad 8.3, (v500,) I'd stick with that and load up CM14. The other Gpad's are inferior so this will probably perform better.

Sometimes you are right. On this occasion however, its just a case of the user having a look around UKHD. Nexus 7 2013, LG Gpad 8.3, Tesco Hudl 2.......All have 2GB ram and come in at around £100 or cheaper second hand due to availability.

Yes but comparing second hand to new is not apples to apples. Some people value brand new over used, no matter how good the spec (of the used item). You can't have it all.

The Nexus 7 2013 has been at £99 in Argos many times on UKHD. Apples with Apples.

If you buy used from CeX, you get a 2 year warranty.

Ask yourself what you want the tablet for?
Do you want to play the latest games etc. Or is it just to browse the web? What Screen size etc.?
I've just bought 2 amazon fire 7's for the kids, the tablet will be fine for their requirements and only £50 each with case and 32gb ad card (Tesco deal).

If you read my initial comments I said that the Nexus 7 may be too small for some. This isn't about name calling or saying I'm right and your wrong etc. It's about the community offering other suggestions.

Just saying 2gb of ram is not enough is a joke, plenty of tablets run fine with 2gb or less, iPads run on 1gb ram fine.
your just trying to get people to bite by making out you know what your going on about, when clearly your just trolling.

I've just noticed this. Confusing, but fantastic. Thanks for pointing that out!

My first real tablet was the original nexus 7, which was brilliant at the time and used daily for a few years, I then bought a Linx 10 windows tablet which was ok and suited my daily browsing needs (with the extra flexibility of windows), I liked the bigger screen and could get a full day without charging, Microsoft bricked the tablet with an update which trashed the bios so I travelled over to the dark side and bought an iPad mini 2 for £140 on a recent Asda deal. I hate apple and all what it stands for but the tablet is very good and was well worth the money paid.
I've also a surface pro as well but very rarely switch it on.

I will use the tablet mainly for browsing the web and watching videos.... But Id like to get the best deal with good memory, battery life, screen resolution etc... I'm confused but I believe Black Friday is a good day to do shopping :) Please let me know if you have any recommendations :) Brands do not matter ! Price and features do!

There should be plenty of deals this week, usually you get better battery life on the 10inch tablets compared to the 7 or 8 inch ones, likely you'll only need 16gb memory if your only browsing and watching Netflix etc. If your planning on downloading films then get one with a micro sd slot.
This one has very good screen specs and should easily cope with what you want it for it for.
I haven't used this tablet but the reviews are good.
Don't let trolls saying you need more than 2gb of ram influence you as you will end up paying more than you need to.
#40
thats a lot for your opinion ! I appreciate it :) If you notice any better deal that this one, please let me know :) I'll wait till Friday and see what other deals are but if I dont find anything better, I think I'll stick to this one...Or pehaps I should wait till Boxing Day?
