these netbooks are getting more expensive. the whole point is that there small and cheap. i think the best value one is the acer aspire one or the eepc 900. for £329 you can get a decently specd 15" laptop.

Do not buy an EEE PC 900 it has a known problem with the battery draining while switched off.

They are expensive for the runup to Christmas. I might go for one if the price is right in the January sales.

I got one of these for £250, second hand.

It's an excellent piece of hardware. Build quality is second to none and it runs Vista pretty well out of the box.

Upgrade to 2GB and you have yourself a nice and fast portable machine.

Note that this has a good sized keyboard like the MSI Wind. I've heard people have problems adjusting to the 9" netbooks.

I've got one of these too. IMO, it's the perfect size. I find the 7" ones a little too small.

but isn't the point of these the fact that they are a smaller and more portable than a standard laptop, so it is not trying to compete on price with such a product. A bit like a 15" laptop isn't competing with a similarly priced desktop.

I think a 15" laptop is an entirely different market, most people want the smaller notebooks for their portability. Remember this is the top end of the small notebook market, it can do everything and in some cases more than your bigger laptop can do but is a lot more portable. I got one of these a couple of weeks ago and have been nothing but impressed. Yes I could have bought a 15" laptop for the money, but that wasn't what I was looking for.

I've heard people have problems adjusting to the 9" netbooks.

A few people do, but it is lighter and more portable so it should probably be first choice.

I too bought the asus 1000 over the Wind- the battery on the Wind is only a 3-cell but the Asus has a 6-cell and lasts c.5hrs. It's a grown-up laptop and not a toy and the keyboard is almost full size.
