All very nice in principle, but these games are really naff now.

Very expensive for the 10 mins or so novelty value use it will get by most people.

My artwork is on the back of the box for this (I did the cover for the game, Saboteur). Happy days.

Great fun in their day, Absolutely loved my Atari. Wonder what todays generation of kids will make of these basic games. shame there is no Pacman on this unit

It lacks pacman, frogger and defender though.

The flashback 7 version adds frogger

sure emulation is a better way forward ?? a pi zero could do this

I've just come back from the US and bought for the Xbox one but also available for ps4 both volumes of flashback classics 1 and 2. Import that from US if you prefer. Its not out in Europe and no plans to.

Been a die hard Ninty fan since I was old enough to hold a Gameboy, and somehow managed to bag a NES in Smyths.

Gutted at how badly some of the games have aged.

I think, at a push, kids would play them - but only if that's all there was to play. They start 'em young these days...

It's AtGames.

No defender, no river raid - combat was pretty naff on single player... However, do check out a PXP2 - around £12 from eBay / Amazon. Tonnes of sega favourites, can plug into a TV. Worth a look, some good reviews on YouTube.

was going to try this but tried the emulation station standalone USB version and discovered As with all emulator's I've tried, a working gamepad is hit and miss :(. if your happy with keys its fine though. looking forward to the retro c64 though.

I'm right in thinking that most of these games require no more thought than 'UP', 'DOWN', 'LEFT' and 'RIGHT' in various combinations? Some of them like Pong are maybe just 'UP' and 'DOWN? I'm not saying that these can't be fun but if there's something more involved on the table then these won't have any longevity. I don't think it's wrong to acknowledge that games back then were limited by the hardware they ran on.

Shame no defender- recall 'clocking' that on my mate's Atari, circa 1982.

Slightly before my time but i've played a couple of those games and they have really dated.

Personally I feel the 16bit era is the best for "retro" gaming. The games were no longer constrained by hardware/controller issues, so many of them continue to be extremely playable. I'm currently playing through Secret of Mana with my two boys- they absolutely love it! :3

Yes you're right, my friend has the Mini Nintendo Classic and Pac Man on that is a lot closer to the arcade version than the awful Atari port which as you'll see from the video I posted earlier in this thread truly is dreadful.

PacMan on the Atari 2600 (f*king dreadful) >

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HL2p2ANFlQ4

Ms PacMan (some one learnt how to program the Atari 2600 and did a better job with this game) >

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYjSI4Pnh7M

Homebrew port (better than all of the above and can run using Harmony cartridge directly on a Atari 2600) >

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLrYmNCAUBk

Atari 2600 Harmony cartridge (Interfaces SD cards to the Atari 2600, the SD card obviously containing multiple games) >

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDwVo5j8gOA

The Atari 2600 with Harmony Cartridge is better than this deal but not as cheap.

I totally disagree about that 8 bit gaming doesn't have any value over 16bit gaming, there's great 8 bit gaming on the ZX Spectrum and C64 and some on the BBC Micro as well (Elite for example). Where else can you play Jet Set Willy, StarQuake, Manic Miner, Skool Daze and Back to Skool to name but a few.

Secret of Mana (SNES) >

If you haven't already then try Chrono Trigger on the SNES.
