Wow! I know I am getting this!

I wrecken this is a SERIOUS misprice because the 4400+ is over £75 dearer and this is the retail version! And also, the 4800 is over £200 higher! This is Socket 939 RETAIL.

Only 176.19 - THESE WILL SELL ON EBAY FOR MUCH, MUCH HIGHER!

It does look like a mis-price Kyle. Worth a try, but there would be the possibility of orders being cancelled... Good spot though!
#2
Yes, I will have to wait a while before i have the cash, by then they may have noticed this, hmm..
#3
Probably not a mis-price, AMD chips are being slashed with the release of Conroe soon.
#4
You'll note that the 4400 OEM is over 80 more expensive, and 4800 is over 200 more expensive.
#5
... the 4400 and 4800 have 1mb L2 cache/core whereas the 4600 has 512k.

Personally, I'd be looking at Conroe if buying new now. If you want to stick with s939, go for a x2 3800 which can be bought for less than £120 delivered via LOW with quidco cashback. The x2 3800 will easily clock to 4600 levels and more, mine does 2.7ghz, and you'll be saving £50 :)
#6
Don't like to overclock much as it is a turn off when you go to sell it again. I went Intel and I'm not going back, + S939 all the way :P
#7
Order one, cheers for that, unlikely i'll get it but ya never know...

£173.84 including VAT at tekheads.co.uk (although showing out of stock) the next cheapest I can find is DABS at £377

5 days until it is back in stock though :D This will be a good thing for "can you beat it" on Lowest on Web by the way - you'll be able to get it for even cheaper then!

and geez, just call me kyle :P

Thanks .. Excellent spot Kyle! :-D

Welcome to hukd's from me too rftmail ... good to see you posting

It's not a misprice, the 4600 is scheduled to retail at £176 after the AMD price restructure.

Actually better still the X2 5000 is only £223.

Over the coming weeks you will see lots of bargains from AMD so it's worth checking out places like ebuyer.com, overclockers.co.uk and scan.co.uk etc on a regular basis, especially do a search for the X2 5000 as this is an amazing price. Eventually you will come across one.

The reason behind the price difference in the chips is down to the cache. The 4400 and the 4800 are both 1mb while the rest are 512kb. All 512kb are being massively reduced.

But good find by the OP as not all retailers are using the price cuts just yet.
#14
i so wish i had the money to get one of these :(

but great find thanks! :)
#15
Yeah, Scan.co.uk has these at £176.12

I suspect the reason for the price drop is the fact that intel Core 2 Duo chips are due to be released next Monday (24th). According to the various tech forums and computing press these intel chips blow anything that AMD has out of the water. I seem to remember that AMDs most powerful FX62 chip (approx £700 today) is bested even by the lower power core 2 duo chips at approx £200 - hence massive price cuts.
#17
very close to buying one (just needed to type in cc details) but opted out as the comments made were sensible. It doesnt look like a misprice since its similarly priced elsewhere. Profit is to be made on eBay though ...
#19
I was nearly sucked into this deal this morning. I ordered one and cancelled it after reading pud77's comment that it's only got 512kb cache, in which case the price would be normal, not a mis-price or a good deal. Thanks pud77.
[helper]#20
Hi,

New to the forums but good to be here. I see you are all saying it only has 512kb cache, but you do realise that EACH core has 512kb cache, and as it is a dual core CPU, you times it by 2 making 1MB cache (2 X 512kb), so looks like a good deal to me?

I made an order yesterday in the night, being too exalted, but I just canceled it over the phone :)

It's seems all the X2s with 1MB cache have been reduced drastically so far. Other chips with 2MB cache (the 4400 and 4800) haven't been reduced as much yet.

As JPS notes, on the 4600, the 1MB cache equates to 2 cores x 512K.

For those who aren't in the know the larger the cache the better ( for the same speed of processor)
#24
I urge some of you to wait a little while longer, as has been mentioned before. The prices of other, better AMD chips will fall soon enough!

The larger cache (2x1MB) won't be dropping in price at all.
Except for the FX chips with 2x1MB, the others are being dropped from the production line, so only 2x512kb chips will be made, and those have new lower prices as of next week(?) officially.

AMD plans to simplify and consolidate its product lineup by bringing several of its current processor model numbers to end-of-life status at the end of the second quarter. These products include Athlon 64 X2 processors for Socket AM2 with 1MB of L2 cache per core, but that's not the whole story.

The Athlon 64 X2 chips that will be retired are models 4800+, 4400+, and 4000+ for Socket AM2 and models 4400+ and 4800+ for Socket 939. (AMD will continue to supply the Socket 939 4800+ to select PC makers).

Has anyone received the one(s) they ordered? I ordered on the 20th, it's supposed to be next day, Citylink delivery - nothing has arrived. They told me this morning that they were being despatched today and I'd get an e-mail to say they were on their way...................no e-mail; I'm beginning to think that they didn't actually have the stock!
#28
My credit card got charged, after I cancel the order in time (before being dispatched) Today I came home to late to call, but tomorrow will call to see why.

Overclockers are dodgy when it comes to transactions.

I ordered 3 mice and a motherboard once. They said my order had been packed and was on it's way. Of course using their only option of next day delivery. Mine took 5 days to arrive.

And guess what? Only one mouse and the motherboard were in the box with a receipt saying they were out of stock for the other 2 mice.

Now why was I not informed of this and why was I charged for the two mice?

I decided to check my bank account and low and behold they had charged my for all the itmes then a few days later refunded me for the two missing mice (but my bank charged me over £2 for this refund!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I think Overclockers should be reported for money laundering as I know of at least one other time this has happened to someone else!!!

Mmm.. I've not heard good things about them service wise and about the owner and some of his "views". I won't go into it here 'cause it's not really the right place. Google if you want.

I received my money back, without calling them. Great :)

No, not received my CPU either despite ordering early Friday 21st. I was expecting "Next Day Delivery" and for the chip to arrive Monday. Rang them on Monday morning to see what time they deliver to find not even despatched but promised 100% they would be despatched Monday to arrive Tuesday. I've just checked my order online and they still haven't despatched these chips. I've now been on hold 20 minutes to find out what is happening with my order. Not impressed

P.S. Just checked my Credit Card online and it was charged on Friday! Now I'm not happy.

Yup they take the cash as soon as you press checkout button. They do not even check to see if they have anything in stock before taking your cash!!!

As in my case the only way I knew they had none in stock was when I was delivered only half an order with an invoice inside saying not in stock for the other items, and I had aleady been charged for them, AND I also got charged by my bank for THEM laundering MY money when they refunded me about a week later!!
#35
I have been told they are due in Thursday...I've cancelled mine:x

Refund due in 3 - 5 days...never again, fool me once shame on them, fool me twice.............
#36
Yes, after 20 minutes on hold on Tuesday afternoon I was eventually told they may be getting the stock in on Tuesday, maybe Wednesday, maybe Thursday! Despite showing as "In Stock" on Friday when ordered and all over the weekend.

The most annoying thing to me is that there wasn't even a hint of apology, just that's the way it is. Well, you can be 100% sure I'll never purchase from Overclockers again no matter how good the deal.

Hi boys n girls....

My 1st post here:-D

Just to say - I thought the offer seemed like a good one, and having used overclockers before and needing a new CPU, I ordered one.

Email arrived today saying oreder dispached.

OK - so maybe the price of these CPU's are coming down, but I aint complaining - all I know is my Athlon64 3700 went POP with my Mobo (Suppose overclocking counts as self inflicted):(

Still - I generally upgrade onece every 14 - 16 months..........

by the way - LOVE the site and the forum looks cool too:thumbsup: , makes a change from all the retro games forums I spend so much time in;-)
