Nice find, voted hot.

yep, looks good to me!
#4
very nice find. Anybody ordered from these before?
#5
Nice. Didn't know 'Generic' cards were available yet ? Or are they just not specifying a brand ??
#6
They probably can't tie it down to one brand, it might just depend what the buyers are able to get cheap that day. The vast majority of cards are simply the chip manufacturers reference design anyway.

Definitely hot, this is more than £10 cheaper than last week, and heading to (the slower) 4850 territory.

I was searching for a 4870 last night and found several around this price. My only dealings with Eclipse was a few years ago but I've avoided them since as I wasn't impressed.

Yeah not the greatest company to deal with I've had problems with them on two occasions. One of the times they sent 2x 512mb sticks of ram instead of 2x 1024mb. This was back when ram was alot more expensive and I had to complain for over a month to get them replaced.

Some guy is selling nice copper ramsinks on ebay for 50p each that should go nicely.

I ordered This case and PSU from Eclipse last week as it was by far the cheapest of everywhere else.

I ordered at around 4pm on the Thursday and paid for the cheaper 2-3 day delivery. I however received it 8am the very next morning, Friday.

Service like that cannot possibly be faulted. So would definitely recommend this store.

I've used Eclipse for over 10 years, both in-store and mail order. Never had a problem with service and the prices are always among the cheapest in the country, especially their daily deals.

This won't be a true generic product, they sometimes only have one or two items of a particular brand which doesn't warrant creating it's own section on the website.

Ive got one of these but I really would like to see who was making the card before I dropped any money on it. Ideally you want a Sapphire. I have a Powercolor because the Sapphire card wasnt on the market when I bought my 4870.

In saying that its almost £30 cheaper than I paid just 3 short weeks ago.
#13
They'll have labelled these 'generic' so as to avoid annoying their supplier. Minimum price agreements are far too common.
#14
Eclipse are the only website i've ever dealt with that thought it was ok to not send part of an order and then never send it OR refund, many emails later.. i wouldn't use them again.
#15
Had dealings with them 5 years or so ago and with much fuss in getting my order sorted (we're talking months worth of complaining here with the eventual threat of legal action to get them off their arses) they've lost a customer for life. Horrible company and horrible people.
#16
Had a £1000 pc from eclipse, it was faulty there customer service is rubbish,

prices are good, just pray it never goes wrong.

Why ?
They're all reference design - there's no difference between the brands.

I'd like to think that some companies are better at putting together cards than others, reference design or not.
#19
Cards should all be the same basic design for the exceptions of cooling. Some might have better coolers than others, or slightly overclocked versions.

Anyway the brand of the card would not enoy me too much at all, gonna have a better look at this
#20
Has anyone bought one of these yet and can confirm the manufacturer?
#21
i was going to collect one of these but when calling to check the stock they had none left. they do just order them once you checkout online, estimated 4-5 working days.
to me it has never mattered what brand the card is, they all reach near to the same result at stock or overclocked. only thing would be warranty, which i dont think ati cards have anything more than 3 like what some of the nvidia brands give. other than that, the style of cooler might be poo but thats only if you like looking at your card.
it seems like a win/win, especially when they sell the 4850 for £25 less!
#22
I've used them in the past and can tell you they have the poorest customer service ever and it takes you pretty much half an hour to get served! last time i used them was a year ago and can tell you ill never go back there again.

Just checked Ciao site for reviews on Eclipse and it's not good....1.5 out of 5 from 63 reviews...many unhappy and angry customers....I'd write one myself but it's all been said by others on Ciao.

As these are awaiting stock I did a little more shopping around. I can just about match this with another retailer but it requires Quidco so it cant be posted as a separate deal.

GIGABYTE Radeon HD4870 512MB PCIE 2xDVI

1. Goto shop.com via Quidco
2. search for 4870 and select the £173.88 one from shop.bt.com
3. Click through and complete purchase at shop.bt.com

You should get free shipping and 7% quidco = £161.70

...remember that quidco is not guaranteed.
