Great price for a very good card.

I was lucky enough to get a 5870 for £310 when they were released, but nearly bought 2 of these to Xfire instead.
#2
The 4870 1GB is slightly faster for the same money, although this is more efficient.
#3
Nice find. Voted hot!

I've been looking for a 5870, not having much luck at all. :-(

£299 (+ free copy of dirt 2) 5-7 day wait ...

But that's surely purely an estimate judging from the supply issues with these. Worth a punt as you can always cancel if you find stock elsewhere.
#7
Hey thanks for the link to the 5870, when I look at the web page it shows 'Due in 3-4 weeks' though so pretty much the same as other companies?

+ DirectX 11 support on this card for those of us with Win7.
+ this is quieter than a 4870 under load.

How much faster is this over the Ati 3870?

To be honest, it's a massive jump up from the 3870.
Looking at nearly double the performance.

they look equal to me, or negligible...

As a rough guide i use this:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/best-graphics-card,review-31723-8.html
which shows 5770 = 4870 basically.
#13
lets establish what res you want to be playing games on first before the 4870 vs 5770 war ensues.

I know the 4870 and 5770 are about equal, which is why I replied quoting the person who said the 4870 was faster. In reality the 5770 has a very slight edge, as you say it's negliible.
#15
Pretty much as above on Tom's comparison. Same speed, but more 'economic' and quieter due to small nm process (or whatever it's called) plus of course DX11 - although there's only 2 games that support it right now: Battleforge and Dirt 2 (due out this week?)
#16
Oh, and these have 'eyefinity' if you feel like forking out for a 3rd monitor with Displayport input (or you can buy an active Displayport to DVI adapter, which are around £60+).
#17
ocuk can get branded ones with a copy of dirt 2 bundled for £118 and £119 delivered so this is pretty cold.

I'm getting that upgrade tingling sensation...

Nice find, was looking at this just the otherday.

two 5970's in CrossFire is the way forward.....:whistling:

would only be 9 times this price.

I'm considering building a shuttle micro PC with one of these cards. Bonus pending of course :-(

#25

Don't want to spend over £100 though
Don't know why the Nvidia cards prices don't drop....
#28
Would someone who has a good graphics card knowledge be able to tell me if this is worth getting, I have..

ATI Radeon HD 4800

Windows 7

Also have 2 monitors and an HD TV, which I find myself changing the connector on the back alot between TV and monitor 2.

COD - Modern Warfare in the post
Any help/advice appreciated

lol me too. I have a Palit 1GB 8800 GT which is pretty much silence.

Any idea how great is the upgrade of this deal against the 8800GT and how noisy is this card.

I have to be honest the 8800GT so far can deal with anythingt that I have thrown at it. Except for Dragon Age Origin in which I can not get set the 3D buffer on with Maximun Settings at 1920x1080:x.

But without the 3D or Z buffer it works fine and still looks amazing but under DirectX 9 with Windows 7 :x :x

PD: Uhhmmm thinking on selling one of my XBOX 360 and go back to PC gaming :-)

Depends on what 48XX series card you have, a 4850 will easily play MW2 even at 1920x1200 -assuming you have a 1/2 decent CPU to go with it. Also regarding the TV, most cards have 2 DVI ports so just connect both TV and HDTV to the PC and either use Clone or Extended depending on what your going to be doing.

Regarding the 5570, no point upgrading if you have a 4850/70/90 - the gains won't be significant enough imo.

Ah, i've got the exact same card - together with an E6600 and 4GB ram. Get around 50-70fps on COD:MW2 with everything on 'Extra' + 2xAA. @ 1920x1200.

Oops, i miss read your post - you've got 3 screens altogether? I guess that Eyefinity might just come in handy with the 5 series card then - haven't really looked into it properly yet to comment though.

I've done exactly that, playing games like arma2 on the PC (the game puts COD series to shame) and its only cheap in comparison to new console games. I'm loving playing rfactor, gtr2, gtr evolution and LFS with custom outgauges and my Logitech G27, these are cheap games that are never ending as they are fully modifiable by the community which is wicked.

The graphics on the 360 just dont cut it anymore in my opinion and the lack of ability to upgarde simple things like your hard drive then fearing being banned is a pi$$ take, even when you do it for genuine reasons.

Until the day comes that they make upgradable consoles, the consoles days are numbered and ms & sony know that, thats why they are toying with the set top box IPTV / Sky / media center applications on there systems as they need to broaden there horizon to keep there audience.

Anyways...go buy your PC lol....

Yeah thus why i havent upgraded my E6600, 4gb corsair ddr2, 7900GT 256mb in the last two years, as we got a wii, then the 360 price dropped loads so i got a cheap one, then got my hands on a ps3 (partially for blurays however)...but i am upgrading to a AMD Athlon II X3 435 2.9GHz and a XFX 4870 1gb over the festive period as i miss gaming on the PC...and how immense it looks!
#36
Thanks, bought one.

That would depend on which 4870 you are referring to, which cooler, etc.

Hmmmm - very tempting. Need a new card to upgrade froim a Nvifdia 8800 GTO. Will sell that to pay for someof this I think!
