The HD 3870 (core: 775 MHz, mem: 2250 MHz) is going for £39.97 in the PC World clearance sale. It's better than the 8800 GS (core: 550 MHz, mem: 1200 MHz) and £10 cheaper, but stock is much more limited. And if anyone can actually find them (Colliers Wood branch should have one), I'd love you long time if you could pick one up for me and I'll cover postage and maybe a bit more :o) As always it may not show on the price sticker, but should scan correctly.

Good value for money but i wouldnt say it is better than the 8800 GS,Unless you can show a link to a review showing this

The 3850 256 MB is on a par with the 8800 GS (better at low res, worse at high), 3850 512 MB is better with ram helping at higher res, and the 3870 512 MB should floor it :)

Compiled average stats from numerous reviews (the 8800GS is slightly outta place compared to the 3850 (which is only detailed as a 256 version), but it's mostly based on pure clock speeds): http://www.playtool.com/pages/vidtable/table.html

EDIT: why on earth cold? It's £10 cheaper that a card clocked 100 MHz lower with less ram and memory bandwidth, no where near it in benchmarks, and you voted that 600+ :p

Probably because the 8800 GS is showing on the website whereas this is a rumour

>> this is a rumour

http://forums.hexus.net/current-bargains/154940-xfx-geforce-8800gs-384mb-49-97-a-2.html

There's known stock at Colliers Wood branch London (hexus user purchased 2), and it's instore only, as is the 8800 GS now, most of which is never shown on the website.

HOT!! I have the single-slot sapphire version of this card, and in can handle almost anything you throw at it! Currently using this in a shuttle on my 40" Samsung, and handles games such as COD5 and Red Alert 3 at 1920x1080 full screen, full speed no problem! At this price, it is a steal!!!! My card a few months back cost more than double this.
#6
May well be the sapphire version too, didn't ask for full stats but PC World seem to like their Sapphire ATI cards. Sadly they also seem to like Geforce much much more (York has hundreds of the ******s, and about 4 ati boxes :( ).
#7
This is less power hungry that the 8800 geforce as its a newer card
#8
I bought one on Christmas eve (Doncaster Branch) @ £39.97 - was one left but I think that went almost immediately. You would have to be lucky to find one now.

Mine is still in its box and it's the single slot 512mb sapphire version. (rad hd 3870).

Not sure whether to sell or keep (do all my gaming on ps3 and 360).

If you're thinking of selling... ;)

EDIT: anyone know the clock speed of the 8800 GS from PCW? I know they vary between 550 and 680, reference is 550 but I'm guessing at least the alpha dog one was OCd or clocked higher?
#10
luckily grabbed the last one from the junction 9 store and swaaped it for the 8800 gs i bought earlier in the week
#11
What's the product code?
#12
Unfortunately, no stock in Cambridge. Product code is 484895.
#13

Can't find one anywhere near me. Does this deal really exist, I mean, can I go to a shop and actually get this product for this price? These deals that I can't find really get my goat, it makes me question my belief in Father Christmas, UFOs, moon landings and DFS furniture sales. Not voting hot for that reason alone.
#18
i think it doesnt exist you are right. I mean i have checked a friend of mine in pcworld and he couldnt find any traces of it. I know it can go out of stock atleast they should be able to find, after all its the product that had once with them.
#19
Checked in Kidderminster & Telford, neither had this in stock, but there was a really cute retractable USB cable for 47p (!)

Anyway, I'd vote hot as it's a wicked deal, but as I won't be able to get one & nobody else is having any luck finding them, I'll pass. Cold
