~£200 for a 5870 is a cracking deal
#2
I guess this is the knock-on effect of the 6870.
#3
hmmm only 11 degrees for a card that is quicker than a 6870?!
#4
Its a very fast card but there will be better value as AMD are about to drop there replacements the 69** series so they will be selling them off and there's 3 things i don't like about this card 1 its not a well known brand 2, its a cheaper brand from overclockers so if you have issues god help you 3, £10+ for postage is disgusting.

Im going to heat it up because its cheap and very fast.

you are right in a lot of what you say but the card that i feel is going to knock this down a peck, i believe has been pegged back now until 1st quater 2011, whilst i believe it was due out about now. If people dont want to wait till after xmas and possible big price increases with 20% vat coming in, it may be a steal.
#6
checkout the link to there forum and read before buying it has a 12month warranty is suppose to be a Powercolour company with a bad rep.

I hadn't heard that they had put the 69** series back they where due before Christmas if they have been ATI will loose millions in sales from the Christmas period, I will have to have a look as im in the market to replace my 4890 and was going for the 6870 but i may take the gamble as this is a monster card that will max all game with ease and from what ive read its a reference card so hardware should be the same as the rest.

They do have the XFX for £217 with 2 free games i would rather pay and have the better make card though.
#8
the card they are offering for £199 states 2 year warranty in the description, also it mentions OCuk deal so it could be VTX card but could also be another budget card. Also in my experience I'd avoid the XFX, its the only graphics card I've ever had that has died on me, and it was my first XFX being the 8800gtx which had litterly passed its warranty by only a few weeks. As you say though, most seem to reference models.

I just bought a sapphire hd 6870 £179.99 @ dabs, reason I would pick it over this is its newer tech, costs less, and even though it performs slighly less it is fine for my needs (mainly playing COD:black ops), and it eats fewer watts which is always good!

I will not be upgrading again untill the 28nm range come out ~ next september, I do not feel that there are any games worth paying over £200 for a gpu to play. Even the new crysis will be a console port so should play very well on most hardware. Personally I have no need to have anything over 60fps on max settings as my monitor is 60hz.

But a very good price for a card that 5 months ago you could not find for under £300

Also brand wise VTX is owned by TUL which also own Powercolor (powercolor are very good in my opinion especailly their PCS+ range)

Possibly, but what I hear is that the 5870 is actually faster than the 6870. Seen here the 6870 is just above a 5850
http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-6870-radeon-hd-6850-barts,2776-10.html

I like the cards and would want a 6870 myself (apparently have a cool type of aliasing called MLAA which allows you to cut the jagged lines with no performance impact) but if your after price per pound (in regards to sheer power) then the 5870 at this price is the current card to go for.

((((SORRY, meant to quote polly 69's first post)))

The 6950 is looking to be priced at £250 though, and I don't think the performance increase over a 5870 will be 38%
#15
No one knows what the pricing will be yet, we shall see, not sure i trust gibbos word at ocuk when hes trying to shift a load of 5870,s :-) may be 250 at ocuk and 220-230 other places

Good price, but Overclockers are easily the worst company I have ever dealt with.

Why is that?

My experience has been pretty good with them, and fast delivery times too.

They are awful to deal with, wait until you buy something that goes wrong, they wont want to know.

Seconded. Even if you get a 2 year warranty. If things go wrong then don't either it will take ages for a replacement or they'll just ignore you.
#22
+2 Had to RMA some RAM not long ago that went wrong after 3 months, gave them an exact explanation of what was wrong with it and which module then took 2 months to get a replacement after many phone calls... in the mean time I had to buy more RAM from somewhere else as I had no PC and they wouldn't give me money back so when the replacement eventually showed up it's just been sitting in a bag since.

Very good price for this card, I am waiting for the 6900 series in two weeks though, then I'll probably either be after a 6870 or the now very nicely priced GTX470.

They are bad when things go wrong they either give you the run around or sort it and as for delivery i would expect them to be good as they are the only company to charge such massive amounts for P+P.

The member who was on about the XfX cards,

I've 3 cards and never had any issues at all and when ive contacted there support they have answered very quickly and they have followed up a few weeks later to make sure there is no problems. I still have a XfX 7900gs that's in the daughters machine and is very old now and has been no trouble at all i also had the 8800gt at launch which a friend still has and that's going strong and that is 3years old this month.

If i where going to buy a 5870 i would buy the XfX one first off its a better make and secondly ebuyer are selling it so that means no trouble if it goes wrong and free postage. Personally i would buy the 6870 as its brand new and is almost as fast and uses less power.

I wouldn't touch Overclockers with your bargepole let alone mine. I got a monitor from them which went faulty, its been in for repair for >8 months now, and Overclockers just aren't interested even in replacing it with a similar model or refunding part of the price.

Yeah I've had a similar issue. I bought a faulty monitor and they wouldn't accept responsibility for it being broken and said I broke it. Really poor business practice.
#28
Do not buy Powercolour and do not use OCUK. Don't say I didnt warn you.

Go to ebuyer, novatech or scan.
#29
+1 with awful returns problems with OCUK. Used to buy from them, never again. Ebuyer have an XFX 5870 for 190 delivered, have had FAR better experiences with RMA from them.

A 5870 for £180 is a ridiculously good deal, and I advise anyone with the cash to snap it up asap. It's faster than the 6870 and at the same or similar price is the obvious buy. Plus it will handle any game out there comfortably for a fair while.

The 69XX series are monsters, yes, but will cost some serious moolah when they are released next year.

That thread is over a year old. The current deal comes with a 2 year warranty direct with Overclockers.

I would hope the warranty direct with the retailer would allow for a quick swap it card needed returning. Instead of waiting for Overclockers to send it back to the manufacturer for repair. But who knows if it will work out like that.

Overclockers are excellent to deal with, whenever Ive had an issue they have resolved it to my satisfaction and quickly. :)

Thanks for posting this deal up, I ordered two, both arrived today, now got crossfire 5870 action, thanks ocuk for making my XMAS. :)
