this is a no name budget version, you can get the sapphire version off ebuyer for only a few pounds more. Good card , better than the 8600gt but no DX10.

89.81 with google checkout but that's nothing extra when you consider its guaranteed not to be a POS.

this is a no name budget version.

It has MSI Vivid Video Technology suggesting it is a MSI make so not no-name budget version??

if it was MSI they would almost definately(barring error @ aria) brand and market it as such. From the MSI website, it's a tool that 'optimizes graphics quality, to sharpen characteristic edges and to enhance contrast'. Sounds like some useless thing they might have licensed very cheaply.

what i don`t understand is why do people spend so much money on these cards for their pc`s , why not go a buy a ps3 or xbox360 , does`nt that make more sense?
#10
no because u have games that ps3 or xbox wont have

similarly its vice versa, some games on them consoles pc wont have

thats why......

Because these cards are more powerful than a PS3 and PC games are half the price of PS3 ones!

This card combined with any processor isnt. But your point is still valid.

Also, i completely agree on the price of games issue.

PC versions of the same Game are far superior in quality and gameplay than their console counter parts, the Tom Clancy series stand out in my mind.

true for the most part, but there are alot of games that are better optimised for consoles. The recent Spider-Man game for one, alost the recent Prince of Persia games.

Horses for courses.

Consoles are very good graphically but not very good at calculating much else. Hence things like Microsoft Flight Simulator work on the PC but would not be anything like as good on a console which simply couldn't deal with the non graphical calculations. I can't think of anything I do that can be done on a console - but that doesn't mean that one doesn't do everything that you want.

Ive got a version of this card and its very good. The cards are from the same reference design so the main difference between them is the coolers. Some manufacturers also overclock them out the box. Just a word of warning there are not currently any linux drivers for this card. Should be a few months down the line hopefully.

how is this better then the 8600gt?

Significantly better in performance. This is even better than a 8600gts.

All the x1950pro lacks is dx10. However, there will only be a couple of dx10 games by the end of the year.

Also, by the time every games require dx10 card, those dx10 card would be cheap and common.

The 8600GT(S) is only better at offloading H.264 video decoding, which it is a beast at. Then again if you want that functionality, you'd get a cheaper 8500GT. Or wait for AMD's HD2xxx series coming out later this month.

Anyway my Sparkle 8600GTS died after 4 hours, so when that's returned I might consider getting this instead. DX10 means nothing to me, you'd have to pay me to use Vista right now.

Oh, nVidia's Linux drivers are better than ATI/AMD's, if you are so inclined.

google checkout comes up with error on page ive tried different ways to get it with google checkout but no joy has anyone elce had this problem?
#23
I'm tempted to get this but as a Linux user, I prefer Nvidia cards over ATI simply because of the drivers. Whilst ATI seem to be getting better, it's still more hassle getting an ATI card to work with XGL/Beryl than it is an Nvidia one.

However, if I was just a Windows user, I'd go for this card over an 8600.

Out of stock as a super-special.

(The ebuyer sapphire on is also slightly faster and is (and was!) my choice of x1950)

The Sapphire stock coolers are noisy and the Powercolor was cheaper with the added bonus of an aftermarket cooler :)
