Nice spot.
I resisted the 500Gb at £140 (I think) last week, but I've given in to this one.
#5
Excellent, my internal died last week but managed to get most of my data, this external will be used to back stuff up regularly and store the extra rubbish. Cheers rayman
#6
Wow Rayman, now that is a 'Hot' deal. I truly don't have the money to pay for it but couldn't resist. Looks like i'll be eating beans on toast this week now. Will go well with the laptop i've been waiting an eternity for though :)

Just had a look at the manual for this hard drive - after reading a customers review on Amazon -

"When using this external drive with USB interface under Macintosh system, only USB1.1 function will be supported.

That means transfer rates of 12 Mb/s as opposed to the 480 Mb/s rates of USB2."

Not too good...

Not buying it myself, but it's a HOT deal. Just a question/pointer. Lower down the page there's a link to buy a belkin gold USB cable for a penny! http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Gold-Hi-Speed-USB-2-0-Device-Cable-1-8m/dp/B00004Z5T2/ref=e_deav_acc_1_2/026-6933895-1299667?ie=UTF8

Apparently it's sold by flash_memory so i'm not sure if you can bung it in with your order and not even pay postage. I suppose you probably do, it just struck me as a surprising price even if postage did have to be paid.

That said, you do get a cheapy USB cable thrown in so it's not an essential purchase with the drive I guess. :-D

Not too good if you have a mac, but great value for a pc user!
Thanks rayman, I placed my order:grin:

Great find my external H/D has just died on me and was looking for a replacement. Paid an extra £6 to get it delivered within 2 days but if you're not in a hurry the free delivery option is great.

Thanks guys for the feedback :) Sorry about the Mac problems paulo :| Get a PC ;)

No you can't add MarketPlace seller stuff to the same order unfortunately stanglish, but if his/her p+p is low enough, it would still be a good buy :D

Dang, that's actually quite bad news for me as I strictly use a Mac at work and was hoping to transfer hefty design files fairly regularly...
But still, It's prob worth having at this price!
#13
Couldn't resist and ordered two for myself. Cheers Rayman.:)
#14
So glad I missed a deal last week now, thanks for this.

What is it that causes it to have 1.1 function on a Mac? Couldn't there be a "fix" for that somewhere? Is it software or hardware incompatibility?

Loads of questions, but it would be interesting to find out...
#16
Just bought a 320Gb last week but this is so HOT well spotted. Torn between this and the eBuyer model with firewire.... arrgggh.

Agreed that's really deflated me BUT in the manual it shows the combo ATMT drive rather than the USB one?

OK downloaded BOTH manuals and they are identical so it's not very clear.
#18
I agree - not clear at all. Been waitin for one about this price and size for a while.

Would like the option of firewire so could be goin down the hard drive/enclosure route.

Hopefully someone has further info...

I would be very surprised if it didn't work with a Mac. I think Amazon I quiet good on returns so maybe worth giving it a go if you got a Mac.

Just read on the Amazon specs that it will work on OS9 and above so I would go for it. If it don't then return as faulty.
#20
Oh.. It works with Macs silps, but not at USB2 speeds. Only USB 1.1 according to an Amazon reviewer.
#21
I've ordered two drives in case they're OK and at the same time fired off a query to ATMT Support. Fingers crossed.

One thing about this offer though the picture of the drive is different to the other ATMT in the respect that the others appear to have a decal "ATMT" on the side and this doesn't. Minor but may mean an old model/stock etc.
#22
Yes Rayman this one's a cracker..if I required one I'd certainly be amking a purchase.

Well that is one reviewer, I would prefer to see a few more comments from other Mac users who have bought one. You don't really have anything to lose by buying and returning if it doesn't work. By the way, what if the manual refered to by the reviewer was written when most Macs had USB 1.1 and not USB 2. Apple were a bit late in adopting USB 2 and I have come across outdated manuals that aren't even written in proper english. Also sometimes the version of operating system has updates that may solve the problem.

No its not only one reviewer it is what's written in the ATMT manual check like I did.

Wry observation: Macs are 5% of the personal computer market and this is 1 in 20 of the reviews ...

I'll be able to record myself at a shockingly bad 16kbps for the next 1733 days, 15 hours, 29 minutes and 44 seconds when this arrives.

I wonder what the worlds longest rant is :)

p.s. What happens when this hits 100 degrees? Does the site explode?
