Am I the only one who thinks the Elizabeth was utter crap?

Looked fantastic in HD but a serious case of style over substance.

As you have not written that with any emoticon, or any hint of sarcasm I can only assume you to be yet another PS3 owner disgruntled by people making the most of the cheap HD-DVD deals at the mo....

All these people who say these offers are could because they're HD-DVD should be shot. Yes we're all aware of the situation of HD-DVD but when are you going to be able to pick up these titles for less than £10 on BR? Not for a long time.

It's for those who already have HD-DVD players. You might not have one but doesn't mean other people won't.

Nope, no PS3 in my realms. Maybe i should feel sorry for the people that have layed down hard cash for something thats been made obsolete already. Why would anyone expect anything else than slashed prices on obsolete products? maybe theres some laserdiscs deals going i can post on here....

I can understand voting cold if this was a HD-DVD player (which will, I agree, become obsolete - as will all formats in time).

I dont understand the same logic in voting cold for a HD-DVD as you buy it to watch and you then watch it - job done.

If the rule was that we had to vote given an items potential logevity then almost all deals would be decidedly chilly.

All consumer items have a "lifespan".

Food items would be postitively sub zero :-)

Ditto on Atonement. It's a typical 'Oscar' film ie, long, boring, complicated...and Rubbish.

However, loved Elizabeth. Thought it was brilliant.

Clever you for buying a multiformat device. but once again the whole point of voting is again based on personal opinion on wether its a "hot Deal" or not.

A hot deal for me is one that either i would buy myself (for myslef or as a gift) and/or recommend other people to buy it. This ticks neither box for me.
#20
Elizabeth is a great movie.
#21
The way i see it is that hd dvd players are cheap so they are worth buying if you are looking for a cheap upscaler. These deals on the HD DVD's are just a bonus as they cheaper than some off the normal DVD's
#22
Interesting to note that each time there is HD DVD thread it gets very hot despite sniping from Blu-rayers. Shows how popular the format is.
I wonder what the percentage of sales of HD DVDs versus Blu-ray is now?

cold for the reason that its HD DVD

yawn

why do people like this even click on these threads.

So if some posts cheap PS3 games I assume you click on them vote all of them cold as well since they are no use to you either?

If you don't want HD-DVDs then why even look at the posting??? I don't want PS3 games so I don't look at the deals, so I don't vote them cold, its pretty simple really. Do you click on EVERY single posting on here and vote it cold if you don't want whatevers being sold? If so, maybe you need to get out more.

A deals hot if the item being sold is being sold cheaper than pretty much everywhere else, regardless of whether its something you happen to need. Its hot if its useful to people who DO want to buy it.

seen most of these via the seefilmfirst deals from hukdeals!

no you miss the point. if theres a new PS3 game for sale for £10, i would vote hot as i know a few people that have a PS3 and may well benefit from the deal.

Mods keep posting "if you vote cold please state why" so i have. its in my opinion that this deal is cold as its obviously going to be cheap now due to it being an obsolete media.

Batesie, I've both got a PS3 and a great Toshiba HDEP-35 HD-DVD player and I'm currently only buying HD-DVDs.

If you used your noddle you'd figure out that coughing up £60 for the EP-30 HD-DVD player will pay for iteself on your 4th film purchase given the price difference currently between the formats (inc. the free films you get with the Tosh players). Even if you exclude the free films that break-point becomes six films until the tosh has paid for itself.

I recently got all 5 Harry Potters in HD for £22 delivered and on average am spending less than £8 per "top-flight"(no straight to disc crud) films.

Therefore any argument re. HD-DVD deals not being any good is total poo.

Do you work for a BD publishing house by chance? ...If so you must be peeved when I bought 300 on HD-DVD and not BD and saved myself £13 ...would explain your post though?

I actually feel sorry for those people who have paid £300 for a Blue Ray player and £20 for all the films when in 2 years time they will be announcing a BETTER and more advanced type of disc/format and instead of all us HD-DVD people who have paid £50 for our players (which still play DVDs remember) and £5 or £6 for films, the Blue Ray gang will have forked out hundreds and hundred on their players and disks only to find they will have obsolete gear too.

Smart people will have BOTH types of players....so they can chose to either pay £5 for a film on HD or £20 on BR...... Personally i think £50 for a player and £5 a film in high deff represents good value..and lets be honest it will take many years to filter normal DVDs out of the system in favour of BR (or whatever will take over from it in 2 or 3 years time) so why dont we just enjoy this rare chance of seeing high deffinition at a budget cost.

VOTED HOT

zzz boring, this is why we can vote cold or hot. otherwise surely there is no point in voting, some people will find benefit in a deal posted on here and some wont see any potential or benefit whatsoeverr.

obviously its going to be cheaper than BD!!! i wouldnt expect any less.

The point of voting should be if you can see that someone will benifit from a deal then it should be hot.

You are of course able to vote any which way you wish & troll as much as you wish.
#32
but surely everything on here will be of benefit to someone, so everthing should have the same temperature then?

Hot deal!
These films have been cheaper over the last few weeks but I am still waiting for stock to come back in so for amazon to have stock its a very good deal.
I have both HD and blu ray. The quality of the films are excellent. How can people vote cold?
If you have a hd dvd player then its a great deal. If these films were out on blu ray then maybe you can vote cold but they are not and if they do then you will pay 3 times more.
Does the film lose any of its quality because the format its on has lost the war?
I dont think so.
I would still rather buy HD than standard dvd which are now more expensive.
#34
Great! I was looking for something to make up my order for "Enchanted" to over £15!

This'll be just the thing to play on my dead, useless XBOX HD DVD player :-D

No - lots of things are not good deals because the item can be bought cheaper elsewhere, the seller has a poor reputation, the item has been shown to be poor quality or unreliable.

I think the problem with voting cold to a deal to which you:

- are indifferent.
- have no need for (or your friends have no need for).
- have no direct experience of the product / seller.

is that it doesnt actually contribute to whether the deal in itself is good or bad.

In this case I (and apparently most others) can see that someone who may happen to have a HD-DVD player at home will get benifit from this deal.

The point of voting hot or cold is to determine if each individual deal is worthwhile or not. In this instance "is £6.97 the best deal for an HD DVD copy of any of the titles mentioned?" - nothing at all to do the pros and cons of buying into HD DVD as a format. That is how the system is supposed to work - it's not to measure 'opinions' at all. I'm certain that everyone on this forum knows that HD DVD is perhaps not the best thing to get into now, especially if longevity is an issue to you... but some people have bought HD players and those people will want to have something to play on it... simple as that. Apart from issues with the quality of the actual product anything else is kind of irrellevant.

I paid 69.99 for my toshiba hd dvd player with 7 hd dvds and sold those on ebay! Managed to get the hd dvd player literally for free! Certainly worth the effort!
