Was looking for a good set of PC speakers and settled on the Audioengine A5+. Found them at onestoppcshop for a really good price.

Also available in black:
http://www.onestoppcshop.co.uk/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/400265/?gclid=Cj0KEQiA6ounBRCq0LKBjKGgysEBEiQAZmpvA6QGNdYQVsb-2_vqGztJlwyL1WPZjE8Pk3qNTT0iLOEaAj_68P8HAQ

Now I just need to get the right DAC to feed them. Am considering Schiiit Modi or Audioengine D1. Any suggestions or guidance would be welcome.

been using the previous version for about 5 years.
best best electronic device I've ever bought.
drive iMac/sony TV perfectly.
It's loud, it has quite impressive base/tremble level.
just wish I could afford an S8 subwoofer to go with it.

I was considering the same but the £300 price tag and concerns about neighbourly relations put me off. But if I am truly honest, it was this review from what hifi: http://www.whathifi.com/audioengine/s8/review. It takes a lot for them to give less than 4 stars.

Are these better than acoustics q bt3

Very good price for the speakers. I have the previous (A5) as well as this (A5+) version and am quite happy with them.

A couple of weeks, there is a deal of some other brand but compatible subwoofer cost about £150.00

Good price. I'd be tempted to go for the Aktimate micro's instead for this sort of money though.

Any sub would go well with them you know, no need to stick with the same brand. There's some really nice stuff much cheaper than the s8

Interesting, though I try to avoid anything with an Apple dock - it is a facility that I will NEVER use :)

I've never used the dock on the aktimates - they have usb and analogue inputs too.

I've read good things about Monitor Audio's Airstream S200.
#17
thanks, will check it out

im considering the speaker in this thread,, trying to work out costs
i will probanbly need a dac, is the d1 audioengine the best one or are there cheaper equivalents. i would want to connec to macbook...

my dell monitor also has an aux in, which is connect via display port to macbook
#18
Without wanting to on about them, the aktimate's have a built in dac so you can connect straight to the macbook via usb....

From what I have read, the aktimates are more more accurate but the a5+s are warmer. I don't want to buy a sub so settled with the a5s. Depends on what you're after. If you want the clarity aktimates, they are available for a great price here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/111597499085?limghlpsr=true&hlpv=2&ops=true&viphx=1&hlpht=true&lpid=108&chn=ps&device=m&adtype=pla&crdt=0&ff3=1&ff11=ICEP3.0.0-L&ff12=67&ff13=80&ff14=108&ff19=0

what do you guy shink of the acoustic q-bt3 http://www.trustedreviews.com/q-acoustics-q-bt3-review

i like the look of the a5+

what dac would you reccomend.
#22
I can't give a qualified recommendation for a DAC because I haven't bought one yet. Having read around the topic, I'm torn between the schiit modi and the audioengine d1. The schiit is a bit cheaper at 85 notes but doesn't include a headphone amp. However it's possible to extend schiit setups at a later date because they are modular. The d1 is around 110, includes a headphone amp and is meant to pair well with the a5s. Even though i dont need the headphone amp, i'll probably go for d1. Again, cheapest d1 is available from onestoppcshop.

I like q acoustics. My mate has a 2020i 5.1 setup and it sounds great.

Cheers I've ordered the bt3 to checkout only because of bluetooth, its a shame my laptop doesn't have optical as that has the dac element, but I will check sound

Audio engine 5+ looks good but it's a shame it doesn't have a wireless option. There is another speaker by emotiva not available in UK which is meant to be better.
Thanks for your advice
