If you fancy a break a bit different from the beach this summer, why not try Austria? A really beautiful country, peaceful, fresh air and superb scenery. The Tirol area is fantastic, i have been there myself a few years ago and would love to go back. There is plenty to do, lots of walks, cable car rides and exploring. You will even see snow and glaciers on the mountains.
* Deservedly popular, lively and bustling Alpine resort
* Bed & breakfast with good value half board option
* Wide variety of walks
* Great base for an active Summer Holiday

My husband and I went on a similar trip about 3 years ago had a great time, the family we stayed with were brilliant. The meals are in the centre of the town in a pub or hotel, great holiday would go again.

Mayrhofen is great, we have been lots of times. We had a similar deal through Last Minute a few years ago (cheaper actually) - this will be a holiday from Inghams, Crystal, or Thomson, so don't worry about it being some dodgy little holiday company. The accomodation will be basic but clean, and the food in most cafes and restaurants in the Tirol is very good.

The weather can be a bit mixed and it's not cheap to have a meal or a drink, but Austria is fab. Shame we can only go in school holidays now. This is probably related to the world cup being on - the Germans love their football and will probably be staying at home to watch, rather than holidaying in Austrian B and B's.

Superb town / village. Loved my stay there and would love to re visit it someday . We went with Crytal holidays I think, and paid about £120 for a 7 night b+b stay, inc flights and transfers. It was summer of course hence the price. Great resort, superb food and the cable car ride up the cable car measn your back in the snow and minus degree temperatures, even if it is june or july... lovely resort, and a great price.

Gerrit booked I say !

Travelling from which airport?

I had three days there last week. Lovely place. Train links to other places (change at Jenbach for the steam train to Achensee, and the lake cruise), and Alpine walking for cheats: get the cable car to the top and walk from there!

Hint: ask for a "Guest card" from reception, wherever you stay, and use it for a discount on the cable car.

Another hint: I examined lots of different maps for walkers. I thought the best value for money, and easy to use, too, was from the bookshop on the right of the main street as you walk uphill towards the cable car station. It's "Mayr XL Edition Wander-, Bike-, und Skitourenkarte 310 Zillertal von Jenbach bis Mayrhofen." €5.95. 1:25k scale.

If I could get the time off, I'd take this deal and go back! Will add H&R when I work out how. ;-)

Crikey, I went to Mayrhofen with the school back in 1983...

the link doesn't seem to be working - it just takes you to a holiday search page.

I ran a search anyway and cheapest Austrian L&M holiday I could find leaving from London airports on 12th June for 7 nights was £189?

Is this from a different airport?
