Antivirus and anti-spyware
Essential protection for everybody who uses a PC.

avast! Sandbox
Lets you safely browse suspicious websites or run unknown applications.

Silent Firewall
Monitors network connections and blocks hacker attacks.

Antispam
Keeps your mailbox free from SPAM and scam e-mails.

Also you can get 3 and 2 year superscription brilliant antivirus probably the best, never had a virus on any of my computers for 5 years using avast, there software has improved and is user friendly. better than AVG and it also has a real-time protection which tells you if you go on a web page. it also scans your downloads as you download them so you no will no that they have no virus, updated nearly everyday.

Best anti-virus? Yes. But the free version is sufficient. Both versions have the same virus databases so they protect you from the same viruses. The free version also has the most needed features for an anti-virus while the premium one provides extra 'add-ons' that are not really needed..

Not necessarily.

Many people think anti virus is all they need and confuse an anti virus product with a full security suite.
#6
antivirus only plays a small part to the protection. u need internet secuirty
#7
recommend avast anti-virus with comodo firewall rather than depending on one product which could be a sinlge point of failure

here we go, every time.
antivirus/internet security deals should be banned from here, cos the discussion ALWAYS goes this way:-
use the free ones, they're better
no they're not
yes they are I use one and havent had any trouble
you get what you pay for
I use a cracked one from a torrent site
I use a free one

blah blah blah.
#9
The best security is common sense, and keeping eveything up to date, and not visiting dodgy sites / downloading warez etc..

You shouldn't really need any of this software tbh, free or otherwise

My point was that anyone who completely trusts their AV and IS to keep them "safe" is clearly not PC savvy, as such the free version would probably be as good for them as this paid for software.

All AV and IS programs are prone to high false alerts and failure as they are ALWAYS chasing the new virii after they have been deployed. I repair PC's in my spare time and so far, NONE have up to date AV or IS, as a result I have only ever seen one that was infection free.... it belonged to a "man of the cloth" surprisingly there were no pron or even slightly dodgy looking cookies at all!!!

No point in the internet if you take out all of those :p Best thing to do is have a "browsing" PC and a "trusted PC" OR just use a sandbox application

nope, if you're on a permanent broadband connection, even a hardware firewall can be breached.
its not just a case of using common sense otherwise all these companies would be out of business.

you do need a basic level of protection, some will need more than that, others will need a huge amount cos they have no common sense at all and to them, the internet is just a way of getting copyrighted material for free.

do you pay for security on your house?
or do you just leave the doors unlocked
do you make do with the standard locks or fit a burglar alarm system?

same principle applies to your PC on the internet.
if a basic level of security is enough cos you're a light net user, fine.

what I HATE about this site is rubbishing a paid for product simply because a:-it doesnt suit your needs and B:-there are free alternatives.

the comments should be about the price.
its not constructive anymore to keep having the same paid Vs free software argument, cos there is no definitive answer.

is the product in the deal a good price?
yes, vote it, comment if you've used it
no? say where else its cheaper.

there's free alternatives to driving a car-called walking. but that doesnt mean that owning a car is bad.
it provides a speedier way of getting from A-B.

Agree with most of what you have said but aren't most of the threads on this site repetitive though?!?! (Panasonic v Sony, PS3 v 360...... ).

However, I stand by what I said, a high proportion of users don't understand that they MUST keep their AV/ IS upto date or its virtually pointless. I have used Avast free and it was OK, however, I don't use my main internet PC for banking or online purchases etc (I use a completely clean laptop for that) so I don't really care what infections it gets. When it gets slow, I wipe it, other than that I just forget about it. I still believe that people should be allowed to inform others of the alternatives and then they can make an informed choice

If thats the case, perhaps "Is Avast internet security is free now?" would have sounded less sarcastic than "Avast internet security is free now is it?"
