Anyone know what the tech spec is for watching 3D movies at home? Do you need a new TV, 600Mhz or just the glasses?

3d TV's launced in June, megabucks tho!!
#9
Yeah but do you need a 3D TV? Presumably If the answer is yes you will also need a 3D player?
suspended#10
awful film... but good price so heat.
#11
3d version out in Novemeber .. preordered the STEEL CASE version well worth it!!
#12
i imagine the 3d version of the film wont be worth buying as you specifically need a 3D tv to play it using the technology that they used in in making it, therefore they will probably just make a red/blue 3d version for home use like they did with coraline.

Still if that floats your boat....
#13
To take advantage of the new home 3D format you will need a new TV, a new BD player (...unless you have a PS3 in which case an update will be required) and even a new AV receiver as the signal is sent via HDMI v1.4 which none of the current ones have!!!

...is it just me or is this whole 3D malarky destined to end in a monumental failure, I mean, don't they know there's a recession on and all this new kit will cost an absolute fortune!!

...not to mention the physiological problems...i.e headaches, eyestrain, nausea... ...absolute minefield of problems! :whistling::-D

You can already get 3D dvd's such as Final Destination, Shrek, My Bloody Valentine.

They usually come with the 3D glasses to watch on normal TV sets.

I believe they come as an option so you can watch them in normal 2D aswell.

mediocre film. good value for a new film tho so hear + r added

Agree... this film was terrible, it was breath taking to watch, but the story was absolutely terrible

i LOVED this movie, if the 3D one has a 2D version packaged with it i'll go for that (perfect for when i change my TV)

Breathtaking to watch, just because it's 3D?

Good price, but I've seen better storylines on In The Night Garden:whistling:

Yeh & as soon as you've bought that lot they'll bring out the kit you don't need glasses for, a couple of years away allegedly!
#23
nice one thanks op, really enjoyed watching this-seems like a marmite film though judging by the 'awful' and 'amazing' comments-now starship troopers 2 is an awful film-compare that piece of turd to avatar and there's no contest(well in my opinion anyway) Heated!! ;-)

Is this just the blu ray version because Amazon have the Blu-ray and DVD combo for the same price?

The movie was in 3-D, the characters weren't.

I found it really depressing, knowing that shortly after the movie ended Earth's government sent out a huge effing army to 'pacify' the 'insurgents' and 'restore democracy' by razing the place, then poured billions into 'reconstruction' - building space-bases and burger joints - using some of the surviving locals as underpaid labour and shipping the rest off to the *rse end of Ganymede. Twenty years later the native rates of obesity, alcoholism and diabetes were sky high, and all their kids were pregnant at 12, knifing each other, and sniffing solvents leaching from dumped toxic waste from the 'unobtainium' mines...

Give the movie credit, it's not sci-fi, it's historical reconstruction. Ask any native of Australia, either of the Americas, or Diego Garcia...

That's just the standard 2 disc BluRay - not the combo (or at least deosn't say so)

Yep but this is the crappy old 3D with the coloured glasses, nobody wants that...

That's the older version of 3D movies, not the current Gen. I guess they may still do this to capitalise on the 3D hype and also a RealD version too.

The old 3D used to project left & right eye images at the same time and the Red/Green filters on the specs took care of it.

RealD projects images for each eye in atlernate frames and they are polarised with the glasses. It projects the image for each eye 3 times so its smooth. So for a 24fps movie, needing to project each frame 3 times for each eye requires 24 x 3 x 2 = 144fps. I'm honestly not sure if current tvs and players are capable of this.

But the picture clearly states Blu-Ray + DVD, Zavvi have the same image on their site at £17.95 with same picture and state in description it is Blu-ray and DVD. Play image only appears to be blu-ray though RRP is the same. When you enlarge the image of the box it shows the poster so can't tell very clearly and no description at all, even mention of two discs.

This won't be in 3D, or have any special features, since there's another release planned for November (in the US, at least)

Cameron says so: http://www.thehollywoodnews.com/vr/james-cameron-set-avatar-dvd-release-date-and-talks-about-planned-sequel-1949

I quite fancy this but I could see it being a bit crap in 2D to be honest.

Not too sure how the 3D version would work though.

Well thats the version you are going to get...its doing the rounds as a 3D screener at the minute for use with the red and blue glasses.

Or it's a huge budget remake of Disney's Pocahontas, with a few bits of Gattaca thrown in for good measure?

Was an absolutely awful film, went to see it due to all the hype. As said if it hadn't have been in 3D it really wouldn't have been anything special. Glad it didn't pick up all the Oscars it was nominated for.

That one isn't real, somebody just applied filters to it themselves and then released it.

You could do the same thing with an episode of Coronation Street if you wanted to, wouldn't really make it 3D though.

So is the £14.99 version just one disc?

The hype ruined this film to many I think, I've met people who hated this film without even watching it. I went to watch it expecting nothing, actually expecting it would have been bad and when I came out of the cinema I thought it was one of the best film I've seen in the last few years.
I don't get why people say characters weren't "3D" or that the story is like Pochaontas... I disagree with the first (plus the acting was good) and OBVIOUSLY the story reminds of Pochaontas since it's a metaphor of European conquering but that doesn't mean that the story is bad, or that Pochaontas is more entertaining or a better film alltogether.

The pre-order price is really appealing also because I'm not interested in the 3D version (I prefer to watch films without getting a headache). I wish they said something more about the special features included into this blueray.

Not sure why people are saying the 3D version is coming in November, it most probably ain't.

Fox has denied that it is coming later this year, it is a 'special edition' that is coming in November, with the extras that should have been with the April release in the first place.
