Anyone that hasn't seen this show yet (shame on you) here is a brief outline:

In a lost age, the world is divided into four nations: the Water Tribes, the Earth Kingdom, the Fire Nation, and the Air Nomads. Within each nation, there is a remarkable order of men and women called the "benders" who can learn to harness their inborn talent and manipulate their native element. Bending is a powerful form combining martial art and elemental magic. In each generation, only one bender is solely capable of controlling all four elements. That bender is the Avatar. The Avatar is the spirit of the world manifests in human form. When the Avatar dies, it reincarnates into the next nation in the cycle. Starting with the mastery of his or her native element, the Avatar learns to bend all four elements. Throughout the ages, the countless incarnations of the Avatar have served to keep the four nations in harmony. Then, the firebenders attacked. Just as the world needed the Avatar the most, he mysteriously vanished. A hundred years later, the Fire Nation is near final victory in its ruthless war of world domination. The Air Nomads were destroyed, the Air Temples ravished, and all airbender monks eradicated. The Water Tribes were raided and driven to the brink of extinction. The Earth Kingdom remains and fights a hopeless war against the Fire Nation. Many believe the Avatar was never reborn into the Air Nomads and the cycle is broken. In the desolated South Pole, a lone Water tribe struggles to survive. It is here that the village's last remaining waterbender Katara and her warrior brother Sokka rescue a strange 12-year-old boy named Aang who has been suspended in hibernation in an iceberg. The Water tribe soon discovers that Aang is not only an Airbender--the extinct race no one has seen in a century--but also the long lost Avatar. Now Katara and Sokka must safeguard the child Avatar in his journey to master all four elements and save the world from the Fire Nation.

Haven't got a clue. I'm lost on this Avatar thing. It's a bit Pokemon for when the viewers grew up. And Pokemon lost me also. But 5 discs @ £15.20 i.e £3 a disc. Gotta be the bargain of the month (or a misprice). Great deal I reckon.

Not really like pokemon (I advise you to watch a few episodes to see if you like it or not.........I can't force you to like something :)) it has more serious overtones and messagesand is brillant.....go watch it already:-D

A must have. Watch one episode and you'll be hooked!

The amount of time and effort that went into each episode is outstanding.

Avatar never got the attention it deserved.

Maybe the live action movie will help (as long as it is good :whistling:), great show only loved by a few million. It took about 9-10 months per episode so that explains the detail and fluidity in the show. Also the plot was great (don't revel spoilers though)

No, I've seen it. I just think it is made for the Pokemon fan who grew up. I'm not dissing it. It just goes over my head a bit. Then, my son watches In the Night Garden, so you get the idea of "kids" TV that I watch at present.

Please don't be offended but "In the night garden" (found this clip http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=RI3vI4fDJSY) looks reealllly, really bad like mystery science theatre bad.

I'm not offended but my 21 month old son will be well p****d off that you are dissing his favourite programme. He'll probably beat you with his Makka Pakka.

Anyway, Night Garden is fantastic (if you have to watch it); and I'd rather watch it than some of the badly made dross that they make for toddlers.

I did vote hot on your post btw. Not for me, but it's a great deal.

Is "Book One" just the first series... Water I think. Any more series available? Think there were three in total.
#11
There is three seasons in total but only this one has been released in the uk so far
#12
amazing series. Up there with cities of gold and ulysses 31
#13
I wonder when the UK will get season 2 +3 and/or the complete boxset containing all the seasons (maybe released with the movie)?
#14
They may make a forth season..air.. rebuilding the nations? UK DVD release expected 2065 considering this one has only hit our shores now.

i don't hold out to much hope for the movie
1) M. Night Shyamalan directing??? I think he'll change a lot of it
2) I'm not in it!!!
#15
M.night shyamalan might put a good spin on it (realllllyy...........no probable not). However I heard a rumour that the live action movie is based on a modern setting......it would be different.....(also the game been made to tie in with the movie is apparently going to be much better...... )
