The monkeys on here won't get it, but this is a fantastic deal. These are lighter and easier to maintain than most hydraulics and as powerful as most entry ones.

Can these be fitted to any bike? I have just started cycling, so am a total noobie
I believe that currently I have v-brakes that need replacing...

You need to have somewhere to mount them. Have a look on your forks to see if you have a couple of holes like this

    http://bike198.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/fork-is-brake-mounts.jpg

If you have these holes you'll be OK. If not, its more V brakes for you I would imagine. Unless you want to start looking at something like Maguras...

No. I have these on my Boardman and they attach to the bike through specific connections on the fork/frame.

    Great brakes btw.

anyone know how easy these are to install? i have the holes like on the photo above but im thinking the wiring to the brake lever?
    MrToast
disc brakes are good for mountain biking, the only issue with mechanical disc brakes over hydraulic is the fact that grit and stuff on uk trails will affect the mechanical type, this is why hydraulic is better suited to UK riding.

    Still a good price.

you also need wheels that will take a disc brake (rotor). if you bike has v-brakes at the moment, you will probably need new wheels as well. apart from that, they are easy to install, yes.

You should be able to see the calipers mounted on my forks on both these pics of my bikes

I would advise getting some proper advice before changing a crucial safety system on your bike! HUKD is fine for deals but it's not really the place for an in-depth discussion of bicycle maintenance. YouTube is also your friend http://youtu.be/7Dus9jGmGLI

Toastduk knows what they are talking about (top bike by the way!). However, the pic posted by nuwidol is a fork with IS brake caliper mounts, which will require an adapter as the brakes use the more common post mounts.

Thanks for posting the link to that - didn't know was on here. BR is a great site but sometimes it's hard to find the right answer and right thread.

    Not so sure about that.
    - I've not found any cable disc brakes that match a half decent set of hydraulics.
    - I've got Shimano br m775 brakes on 2 of my bikes and apart from changing the pads they have never been touched. (Yes much more expensive than this deal, but disproves the myth that hydraulics are hard to maintain.

Still, a very good price for mechanical brakes. Hot

This will save me a few quid converting the front wheel of my Pompino to disc.
    Thanks OP !

I have these BB5's on my Genesis and they're great. Does this come with just the break or do you get the pad and disk as well?
    xchaotic
I was initially sceptical about mechanical brakes, but the BB5s really are pretty good when new, I haven't had a chance to use them beyond the initial 200 miles (I changed the bike) but while I had them they were great and they had characteristics of hydraulic brakes - ie. good linear progression etc
