I know insurance companies use promotions that aint really real but this one is, how do i know? because i got a quote of them last month and this month i got another one for the same car/details and it worked out much cheaper, infact it was exactly 12 months for 10 cheaper! worth a look as the quote can be held for a full 60 day, plus £52 quidco on top!
Fantastic, must have 4 years no claims and when i claimed with these lot about 3 years ago they were excellent.

Its worth a look for any one anyway cant hurt to try it because its quality cover and plus most of the time the call centers are in the uk again!

I assume you've got protected no claims then, otherwise you don't have 4 years no claims!!

Anyway, been with Norwich Union for last 3-4 years, always cheapest especially with cashback, until this year! Now they've changed their name, their prices (for me at least) have doubled! I can find cheaper at loads of places, went with swiftcover for around £200 less!

Oh, and 2 months free is a gimmick really, I could offer 11 months free but still be more expensive than everywhere else! It's the total price that matters. Not voting either way as it could be a good price for someone, just not me anymore. I had big problems with their CS about 8 months ago too, got a letter from them telling me the police had reported me for potentially lying about my name, address and no claims bonus. After an hour arguing with them and asking them to tell me which police department had made that accusation they finally admitted that it had nothing to do with the police at all! I called their bluff and said that I'd spoken to the police and they had no record. Also had a problem where they weren't processing the direct debit properly, they took 2 months in one month and then for about the next 4 months didn't take any payment and kept sending me letters saying the bank had refused it. Eventually got it sorted and received about £200 in compensation from NU and the bank for the various mistakes made!

Oh, and one more thing, rather than get a direct quote from here, just use a comparison site. Pretty sure Aviva is on them so you'll get a price anyway whilst being able to see loads of others.

my insurance is due, so went and got a quote -£1100, using their comparison prices - the 2nd dearest was £450.
Swift cover's is £230!

I ended up with More>than and £60 cashback via quidco (validated - awaiting payment)
(Ins Group 12 car @ £229 and £60 to receive = net £169)

Dead right.... I just renewed my insurance this month, and Aviva were so far down the list, I shuddered, as I am an Aviva Shareholder! :-(

Comparison sites don't always give you the cheapest quote for the sites they list. I've found on many occasions now, that getting a quote directly often ends up being cheaper. Example being Privilege - was £50 or so cheaper direct, when compared to going via a comparison site.

Some brokers request more specific information directly than the comparison sites, which can affect your premium a fair bit.

Yep, but I think it gives a good comparison tho. If Aviva are £200 more expensive than the others then you're not going to save £200 just by going direct.

It also depends on whether the comparison site gives you a quote with breakdown cover, legal fees etc included.

Surely it is the other way round!
They tempt you with a low quote, then you follow it up, and it is surrounded with extras bumping up the total by a good bit!

You would certainly think so, wouldn't you? Some of the comparison sites will perform credit checks on you apparently as well (don't hold that one to me - I've read that in a few places now), which is annoying if you just want a quote really.

Of course there are other factors to consider, but whenever I've got the "cheapest quote" via a comparison site, I go to the actual site and have always ended up saving more money and getting more cover. One could assume it depends on circumstances too, but I am cynical and believe that the middle-man takes a cut of course.

I am wise to the sudden influx of phone calls and emails immediately following such a set of quotes.... an old mobile number means the calls still arrive to a "live" number but you can just ignore them :whistling:

I the past I have done better with quotes via a broker rather than direct, and in fact I am still insuring my caravan this way! Doesn't often seem to work that way though, as you say, you would expect a middle man to put up the costs, but there are exceptions!

This is a personal experience but you be the judge my mum died the day before we where going on holiday aviva refused to pay out. never use this company for any insurance these people are good at taking your money crap at paying out .

My daughter bought her car insurance from Aviva in August with £52 cashback through Topcashback, which has still NOT tracked. Do not rely on getting the cashback.

Insured my mondeo with aviva using Quidco

same premium as my old insurer less the £52 quidco, tracked and paid this month from september
