is that a usb on the end of it.... looks funny. might wait for something more flash (and the full blown software release)
#2
dont bother. the psp and iphone can do this too, just wait for the code to be ported.

these will be 10x cheaper in a few weeks, just wait.
#3
what on earth is this used for?

It's for electronics engineers who write software for embedded devices (things like the microprocessor that controls your microwave, or a photocopier). Very specialised and this seems to be sold at the regualr price, not as an offer or discount, so it isn't really a deal.
#5
It allows Backups to be played on PS3 with a slight modification to the HEX code installed.
banned#6
Give it a few weeks and it'll be free...
#7
All those options are out of stock or on back order. Could be weeks before you get it.

It already is FREE the HEX code was released today/yesterday!
Your still gonna need a chip to run this HEX to allow unsigned code/Backups to be played on your PS3!

what i want to know is why would anyone post this as its out of stock and has been for ages and other sites are saying 1/11/10 before any stock and theres no stock anywhere this is stone cold and needs removing.

HEX code manipulation is pretty straightforward once you know what you are looking for and use an editor. Sure brings back memories though, last time I did something like that was on the old SSI D&D games on the C64 to change the codewheel words into carriage returns...

You need PS***** to jailbreak the P*3 and this is not for 90% of forum members and then you need a source for the games which again very few users will know where to source them and wouldnt have a clue on how to do the hack .

Aswell as that this being on the forums is only going to lead to trouble as sony have made all usenet indexers remove the software and have issued a restraining order in Australia for sellers selling the stuff and this spells trouble for HUKD as its telling people where to buy the kit to do it and its mentioning what its for.

So your saying that jailbreaking a console is not illegal then if that's the case why would anyone do it? Its not illegal to do it but as soon as you change Sonys OS or run a backup then it is. The only reason for this is to exploit Sony's protection to allow you to load and run backups and if it is not illegal explain why judges have already issued cease and desist orders and Sony are doing everything in there power to get this made illegal. There is only one reason you will jailbreak the PS3 and that to run homebrew same as iphone.

You my friend have no clue what your talking about.

No you have no clue what YOU are talking about, some of us jailbreak the iphones to see IF WE CAN, it's MY ps3 not sonys. They will not suceed in this just like Microsoft didnt, all Sony can do is blacklist consoles that use it and limit there access to online games etc.
This is what microsoft ended up doing because there cease lawsuit did not go through.

You can say its about piracy all you like and yes those who are cheap and want something for free will use it as such. But for me it is about expanding the consoles capabilitys. I have been coding in this scene since i learnt to code at 14, it has been a hobby of mine. My Xbox 1 was hacked not for free games but for the media use, Excellent media storage.

Also with the size of the PS3s HD it would be nice to rip all my games to the HD and be able to hot swap between them without having to change the disk since the ps3 in my home sits in the media server rack.

I love how pirates keep saying HOMEBREW HOMEBREW BACKUPS when really, they just want to get free games. Stop kidding yourself.

Can't wait until my PSP can do this - what a kick in the balls for Sony - one of their consoles being used to hack another - genius :D

Sadly you've no idea what you're talking about, homebrew is a right. Things like XBMC would never have existed if people weren't allowed to hack their own property. In most countries Jailbreaking or Hacking your own property is totally legal, its just what you do with it that can be illegal (as with pretty much anything).

The PS3 is a powerful beast, until now limited access was granted to the CPU/GPUs then totally removed after some inital hack attempts. If this opens the door up, then its a good step forward, If you own something that is caperble of much more than its designed, its your right to beable to utilise it to its full extent, granted under the restriction of the manufacturer (no online gaming), but many of us are happy with that.

Personally, I want to reuse my PS3 as my x264 encoder, damn it was good while it was allowed.

Running home brew software or a back up is illegal? oO Lol, I'm off to hand myself into the local police station for running Xbox Media Centre almost every day for the past 5 years. Since we're such good friends though will you come and visit me in my super-max security prison? I'll be in the wing with the murderers and rapists.

Lot of people with high morals on here. 'You should not install this as xxx forbids it!' As pointed out above; if I buy a phone, computer, tele or gaming machine, the thing is mine and for me to do with as I please. If I want to swap the hard disk to a larger one, I put another in. Oh, I cannot as Sony does not allow me to. I want to run Linux so I can use my PS3 as a media server. Oh I cannot as Sony does not want me to.

You lot think everyone who modifies their own equipment does so to pirate games or music, and, that they therefor will not buy any music / games. This is wrong in 2 ways.

1) As explained above, it opens up your hardware to do more.
2) People who pirate do this so they can 'try before they buy'. Check the numbers - google them. People who pirate spend MORE on music / games then those who do not. The music and gaming industry knows this, but heck they will not learn from this, and surely will not publish this little known fact.

Could have fooled me, given the amount of DS carts that used to get posted, unless this is a recent change - in which case, GOOD!

http://www.embeddedcomputers.net/products/BlackcatUSB/

and it is actually possible to do it using a hacked psp too :P

yeah, but 20$ for usb board (or even no board if you have psp, android phone etc.) compared to 89.99$ - it's worth the hassle

Sadly I think guys like you are in the minority. I have no problem with folks who want to create on hacked consoles.. like as you say, things like XBMC would never have been born. But even then, that's used by folks who (mostly) pirate movies and media and put them onto a central location anyway.. so whilst that's a cool product, it's really another aid to piracy. Everyone I know who's proudly shown me their XBMC, it's been loaded with stuff they've copied off someone else - not ripped & encoded themselves!

Ok, so I've found the PS3 Jailbreak files and now what? Any guides or do you just transfer the files to USB device and then plug it in?
#33
ehm...you need a specific usb device, not just a flash drive. what have you got ?

and its not that simple, lots of hassle

I'm talking hypothetically. I can literally get the Jailbreak now and I plan on getting the required USB device providing the process isn't too complicated.

How difficult is it? Any step by step guides?

I looked into this a couple of days ago and landed with many of the links in this thread, but I stopped looking for two reasons.

1. A PSP / iPhone / SmartPhone is likely to be able to do the same job
2. The PS Jailbreak is designed as a sellable product, so it apparantly switches the PS3 back from debug mode as it is switched off so you have to keep the USB key in the device, it was be possible to jailbreak it the once and not NEED a USB device if the code is adapted, a bit like the PSP / iPhone process.

Absolute tosh - the iphone is the best example to use - yes jailbreaking it can be used to put pirated apps and games on it (and many do I agree) but it has also opened the door to thousands of apps that have been written by users many of which far surpass the stuff Apple offer up.
The PS3 is an immensely powerful console which doesnt even begin to show off what its capable of doing as most games are just ports of games on the 360 or PC also - this mod will allow "bedroom coders" to have a crack at doing some stuff themselves and Im positive there will be some fantastic stuff appearing for it soon, but I will admit it will also get used for piracy by some but u wont be able to play them online which nowadays is a big part of most retail games.

You can get these for £9.49 on ebay
#38
LRGM - you need to have as it all runs from the USB without touch the original firmware mate ;) no other way to do it.

Some very, very, very, VERY ignorant people in this thread in regards to homebrew. Brainwashed by the mainstream media and the big bad companies no doubt. Get a grip.
