Apologies if this has been posted before, bought today in B&M Poole. I think it's a good price for a Dash Cam which also comes with an 8gb sd card, mounting kit, car charger, mini USB cable and a 2.4 inch TFT screen

What is the quality of the recording like on this? looks similar to the ones sold on eBay for about £8, with the rolson brand on it.

Yeah quality is all important in both screen res and FPS.

Last thing you want is a camera with Gameboy green screen from the 1990s.

Have a look about and REMEMBER THE ONES FROM CHINA ARE RARELY THE SCREEN RES THEY CLAIM. Images are a lower resolution then interpolated to make then bigger.

as long as they pick up basic images and registration plates from 10m or so? £15 punt, otherwise could be good for sending clips to those Youtube channels who like witnessing audis driving insane, bmws without indicators and small clapped out peugeot 106s driven by 17 year olds spinning out on roundabouts*. (* this is clearly sarcasm and stereotyping)

Just turned it on and first impressions are that picture quality is quite decent, I'm pleased with it for the price

Got one of these for a tenner a while ago. Menu is very awkward , picture quality is ok but screen froze after a few months. I'd invest in a better quality one.

Quite possibly on the cheaper import ones. Apple, Samsung etc are made under licence and to exact specifications.

Cheap knock tat made in a back alley sweatshops isn't really comparable is it? Buy one of eBay for 10 quid are you really going to send it back, especially as it has melted when it set your car on fire. THAT E.C. STAMP means everything when buying electrical items. Cheap tat from China for 99p delivered must make you question the quality of components.

Techmoan on YouTube talks about how cheaper cameras from China use interpolation to increase resolution so they claim its HD etc when in fact it looks messy and you can't read number plates often in parked cars at the supermarket.

In life you get what you pay for.

A quick post I found from a Google search.

Doesn't sound bad an spec on b+m website states HD at 720p so next question would be about:

Ability to turn night vision off as its useless behind glass

Frames Per Second recording rate.

Again, this is all dependent on doing your homework.

And that is why I wouldn't buy a dashcam from one of the sheds in this country unless it was either branded, or very cheap.

The more reputable Chinese places will tell you exactly what you're getting in the box. If you get information on the sensor and chipset in the camera, then you'll know what the quality will be like.

The very cheap cams have their place -- for those people who can accept VGA resolution they are fine (and VGA is sufficient for insurance purposes). The problem comes when the disreputable sellers on eBay and Amazon (and where they are from is not important) sell the cheap cams as if they're the better ones. The manufacturers don't lie -- they'll generally give the resellers a range of specs, and it's up to the reseller to choose which to buy, and then honestly describe to the buyer.

I repeat, this has nothing to do with where the seller is based -- many UK suppliers sell the cheap cams as if they're 1080p yadda yadda.

Above cam? Looks like the same old cheap Syntek 12fps interpolated cam to me. Lowest of the low -- some of the £5 cams on AliExpress will outperform it. But again, good enough for insurance.

Here's Techmoan's review of this camera from 2010:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwBmNk-mHU8

As I said, 12fps actual, interpolated, Syntek chipset, very old design, poor performance and outperformed by most of the very cheap / fake cameras on sale today.

It's not exactly the same but these cams all have the same basic hardware.

I've just used it driving around today and despite whatever the in depth comment s about the specs etc. It seemed good and I'm well pleased with it for the price. I didn't want to pay loads for a Dash Cam, so when I saw this I thought I'd give it a try and even as a bit a of gadget fan myself I can honestly say I'm NOT disappointed with it. :p

I've just played the footage from the Sd card I recorded on todays drive and the framerate is very good and picture is clear. if there's a way of downloading video to HUKD then I'll do it
