I was checking the range for a friend & stumbled upon this unusual mid season discount (17%). At £600 it was already keenly priced but nudging under the 500 barrier makes this a pretty good deal.

Summary for the lazy:
Aluminium frame with carbon bladed forks. 105 drivetrain (5700, 10 speed), Tiagra cassette, Prowheel Ounce compact chainset, Mavic Aksium ONE wheels. 9.5kg all in. And the usual lifetime warranty for the frame, stem, handlebar and rigid fork.

I use my Triban 500 '14 model every day for commuting & did a few sportives on it. Still a great bike & this is the next level up. i know looks are subjective but it looks good to me.

Update: Price has dropped lower but there still appears to be stock in S (As of 2pm 11/7/16). Awesome bargain.

Was just about to post this myself. Cracking deal. When this bike came out last year Bikeradar called it "one of the best bargains on the road". That was at £600. At under £500 it's a great deal for a good all round package. Mainly Shimano105 for £500 - and decent Mavic Askium wheels what's not to like? I have it's little brother the T520 (Sora and decathlon stock wheels £450) but if I'd known the T540 would come down to this price so soon I'd have happily waited to get one instead. Decathlon also offer a one year satisfaction guarantee.

The OP already stated it's not full 105. Gear changes are smooth. brakes are fine. Tyres not great though.

If only the company I worked for allowed us to buy bikes through the cycle to work scheme from anywhere but Halfords.

Tested this bike in store today and loved it. Very good bike at this price, worked out to be £340 with CyclePlus scheme.
It weighs around 9.9 kg for a large frame (57cm).

Halfords cycle to work vouchers are accepted in other bike shops. i used mine at buy a bike charnock richard, but i dont recommend you go there, didnt put my bike together to well bottom bracket came loose after 200 miles had to replace due to damage

Excellent deal! Upgrade the brakes to 105 for under £40 at Ribble cycles and in the future maybe the chainset and you've got an absolute steal. Heat added.

Looks like Halfords don't deal with Decathlon.

Local bike shops only accept Halfords vouchers out of desperation. They make little or nothing on the bikes when they accept them. Please petition your companies to change to a more universal cycle scheme.

Decathlon will take cycle scheme vouchers if you are part of their scheme, I am halfway through my first year of a go outdoors bike and have saved about £130 through them https://www.cyclescheme.co.uk/retailers

Chain Reaction put the 5700 chainset & cassette at around £100 - so this basically means you could get a smashing bike with full 5700 for ~£600 and that is smoking hot. The 5700 is rated to be as good as last season Ultegra.

Hot hot hot..damn had to buy at that price....oh dear wifies gonna hate me :)

I think you're getting your versions of Shimano 105 mixed up. I've read people's opinion that 5800 is very good, but 5700 is generally not rated so highly and it's certainly not comparable to Ultegra. Saying that, I have a full 5700 groupset on my bike and it's fine for what it is.

The 5700 was considered very good until the 5800 was released. Nothing wrong with 5700 as you said.

Great value bike.

I have tiagra the older series 4600 and it works fine.

I have tried a bike with 105 5800 and one with 6800 and to be honest I did'nt detect any difference.

In my experience assuming its setup correctly and the parts are not worn out I think there is very little difference.

Weight (maybe be longevity as well) is the biggest difference but imho you would have to nationaly rated for 200-400g to make a difference to perfomance.

amazing bike for the price.
had considered this bike in the past at 600 but I, well the misses, can't justify another bike.
steal at 500 with £10 store voucher too ;)
these will be flying it out, gets good reviews generally so don't miss out!
would recommend picking it up in store so they set it all up right for you and test it before you leave!

As far as I am aware they don't, or any other type of discounting. You do however get a £5 voucher for every £250 you spend...
