Brilliant idea for those who don't want the expense of buying a brand name pram, only to get rid of it in 6 months once a stroller is more suitable, or a bigger carseat or crib is needed.

Carseats and cribs also available to rent.

Also, if you take part in their research study (as I am in 2 weeks) you get given vouchers towards the cost of the rental. this involves an in person interview. I'm not sure how many vouchers you get, will update once I know.

Interesting idea, how are you covered for damage to the items, after 6 months of use a chassis can take some abuse in and out of cars, folding ect. I can't see anything about this on their terms and conditions? Not knocking the idea, just curious.

i'm pretty sure one pram only gets rented out a max of 2-3 times for health and safety reasons. if for any reason the pram is unrentable, ie, it can't be sanitarily or safely used, it won't get rented will it.

You'll need to rent the carseats twice, so over £50 for the Maxi Cosi Cabriofix for 12 months....

There have been several deals posted here where you've been able to buy one for that price, brand new, and with the option to sell as a unit or its component parts when you're done with it.

Sorry, cold from me as it's the same story for the Maxi Cosi Pebble and the Quinny Buzz (I sold a barely used one for £125 about 12 months ago).

not everyone needs a carseat for a whole year though do they. i literally only need one to take my little one back from hospital. also, a lot of people like to chop and change their prams every 6 months, till they find one they like the best and adjusts to their kids needs.

Many hospitals can lend you a carseat if you only need it for one journey. Plus, why would you want to rent one for 6 months if you wont use it? Surely one could be borrowed from a friend instead, that way its not sat around taking up space and won't cost a penny.

Yes, lots of people change their pushchair frequently but the ones on the website are all very similar and can be bought second had for not a lot more than the rental fee.

I'm sure this sort of idea will suit some people but it wouldn't be for me and I can't vote hot on a deal I think is a waste of loney.

thanks for the hospital tip, i will try that. all my friends with babies are 3 hours away from me so i can't borrow. plus there could be times in the first 6 months when i need to take him to hospital in an emergency, therefore need to get a taxi. piece of mind, but don't want to spend too much to buy one.

the problem with second hand prams is yes, they retain some equity, but i have found at the ones i've looked at on gumtree and preloved, people advertise them as 'hardly use' and when you actually see them they are quite beaten up.

given that these prams are advertised as like new condition, and have been thoroughly checked and service, it's less of a concern. but of course, i cant resell at the end of 6 months, which i don't really mind, as selling prams seems to be a bit of a hassle in that people don't want to pay what they are or aren't worth.

here's some more details, there's a link to the t&cs at the bottom, seem reasonable to me.

I'd prefer buying new on a good deal then selling on eBay/ local ads, you'll get closer (maybe not exactly as cheap) to the rental cost overall and know you had new.
#18
Great idea, especially for the first, I ended up buying everything new spending a fortune then rarely using it, by the second child you don't give a S***

true but id rather not dump £330 until I at least know its suitable. I see renting as a trial run if you like. ive looked and cant see any second hand of this model for this price.

I wasn't being negative, but I would like to know how much I have to pay if the items got accidentally damaged etc, the lack of info on their own site sends alarm bells off immediately. For anyone to go ahead a rent anything without knowing this would be madness IMO. I have emailed them and will post up what I get.

You say yourself "the problem with second hand prams is yes, they retain some equity, but i have found at the ones i've looked at on gumtree and preloved, people advertise them as 'hardly use' and when you actually see them they are quite beaten up." I'd expect a rented one would be just as beat up if not more so than a preowned one.

Prams - wicked idea but car seats is a big no no..... How would they know that it hasn't been in an accident.... No risks taken with my kids!
#23
great if you've got cash but no for me as I've always bought second hand and sold for more than I paid. I've seen some second hand stuff you wouldn't touch with a barge pole yuck!
this system works out way too expensive for someone like myself.

if I had the cash then I'd love to rent it as it'd mean I don't get stuck with a pushchair that's rubbish. great for those who can afford it I'd say

as described, items are 'like new' condition. they've been thorughly tested. if in an accident, the renter reports, then the carseat is taken out of circulation. just like with a dodgy car. i'm sure you've rented a car on holiday before?

I've done this. And ive done the research project that is mentioned Got 30 in NCT vouchers for doing so. Mine is a zapp xtra but it's not the new all together fold version which is annoying. But it did come as new, it's 100% covered for damages but the box costs £10 if you damage or loose it. I was told unless you deliberately damage it they aren't fussed, where else can you rent for £11 a month ey?
