In 1994, Star Trek had to take a backseat to a new kid on the block, science-fiction series Babylon 5, created by Michael Straczynski. In a nutshell, it's the 23rd Century and the Babylon 5 space station has become an interplanetary peaceful negotiation centre. Humans and aliens attempt to settle differences in a reasonable fashion here under the stewardship of President John J. Sheridan (Bruce Boxleitner), which makes for some fantastical plot arcs throughout its five year run.

This stylishly compact yet comprehensive box set contains every Babylon 5 episode ever made, the series Crusade and all six Babylon 5 feature films with extras, plus the brand-new feature The Lost Tales, which has never been shown on television.

IIRC, it's really only partway through the second season that it begins to hot up. The third and fourth seasons proceed at a breakneck tempo!

As much as I loved this flawed classic, the more time that passes, the harder it becomes to suggest sci-fi fans must see it.

Still one of the best examples of a story arc that follows through each series and along with all the movies its about as epic as it gets. But the computer graphics don't really stand up well today at all and with so much bad CGI (that admittedly does improve with each season) you're really only left with a few great characters to pull you through to the end.

The CGI is a bit dated - but it still pulls a good story line. If you want heavy action then series 3 onwards (I bought it - saving for a Babylon-a-thon).

Bloody hell this is so cheap in comparison to what it was originally!

With critique as in depth as that, how could anyone disagree?

I'm going to make two guesses. 1. You comment over at youtube a lot. 2. You're really a film critic from the Sun.

Totally missed that reference. I should be ashamed as I have Spaced on DVD.

Robot Club Leader: Gentlemen, welcome to Robot Club. The first rule of Robot Club is, you do not talk about about Robot Club. The second rule of Robot Club is, YOU DO NOT TALK ABOUT Ro… wait, I… got that wrong. [Unfolding a crumpled up piece of paper and pushing up his glasses] The second rule is, no smoking.

Tim: Why aren't we allowed to smoke?

Mike: Were not allowed to talk about it.
