I bought one of these a few weeks ago when the last deal was posted; I sent it back because the fan was very noisy customer care arranged DHL to pick it up from my work place and a week later drop it off again working perfectly so 10 out of 10 for customer care and the net book is great so got to be hot
#3
I bought one also arrived with the wrong mains adaptor, rang the refub number that was in the box and a replacement was sent that day. The netbook is superb and have had no issues with it since.Bargain!

The 8GB one is probably a solid state drive. Still, I'd rather have 160gb mechanical hard drive since the quicker access times on the SSD wont make much of a difference for a netbook like this! :D
#5
Want one, but not sure why? lol
#6
The 8gb version is the flash drive version

A review I read wasn't too nice about this and suggested the MSI Wind U100 as a better option (though it's a little more expensive at £149.99 from Argos clearance).

I leave you guys to make up your minds.

Was tempted by this rather than the Asus 900a, but there doesnt seem to be much info about it on the net. I cant even find replacement batteries for it!
#9
Does everyone realise the £129 BRAND NEW Netbook offer is still on at Sainsbury's..? Okay, the Sony Vaio's are sold out, though I did manage to get on last week, but the Medion Akoya 10.2" 1.6GHz 80GB Black Netbook is still in stock.. Seriously, a new one for £129? Absolute bargain - I picked one up this morning for travelling..
#10
Bought one of these a couple of months back.

Standard to my mind, in line with most other netbooks - build quality is good etc.

Two big negatives to potentially be aware of:

- Battery life is very poor for a netbook - never got more than 3 hours out of it.
- The wireless starts up disabled, and need to be manually enabled every time - not sure if this is only mine for some bizarre reason.

If you dont mind about the battery life, this is a steal.

Got one of these. On it now. No problems whatsoever.

I'm loving mine.
I got it on the last deal for the same price.

It's like brand new so I'm not bothered if something else is out there, at this price you can hardly go wrong.
I put a 2gb RAM stick into it.

I would like to know how to swap the hard drive (sooner or later I'm going to want a replacement/bigger drive) but I can't find any tear-down instructions anywhere for this one.
I know there are 2 screws hidden by the rubber pads but with those & the visible ones out I can't get the case to open and I'm worried too much pressre will break something.

If anyone knows of a battery upgrade I'd be interested too.

But all in all, for what I want it for (basically a wi-fi net browser & media player) this thing is perfect.
The screen is decent and with CoreAVC, the AC3 codec and WMP Classic I can get it to play .mkv 720p HD encodes without a stutter - 1080p's proved just that bit too much with the ordinary WMP and VLC
(but I haven't tried it with WMP Classic yet - it might work cos WMPC is easily set-up and may just give it that little bit of horsepower it needs, but if not it's no big deal).
I hook it up to a portable MP3 speaker set and the overall effect is great.....way better than any portable MP3 media player.
I'm impressed & happy with it.

(the fan on mine kicks in and out from time to time but it's not excessive or too intrusive)

Friend of mine got one, when he had issues with it the customer support was worse than useless. It was out of action for 7 months before he got it sorted. Broke down after 2months from purchasing

If you can find stock. There was one at my local the other day, decided to check reviews when I got home, went back the next day and it was gone. Apparenly not getting any more in either.

Different model though :)

Would have been hot if it was from a different company, or if it was new and not a refurb from them.
I know the deal is supposed to be based on the price for the item, but sometimes you really have to take the seller into consideration.

In the the case of the Argos eBay outlet, I wouldn't touch them with a bargepole for refurb (i.e. 95% faulty) items.

Check the bios to see if there is a wireless option. Had another laptop do this and found a option to change to enabled on start up :)

Can you justify this comment?

People in this thread have already mentioned items that were faulty on arrival (and their subsequent trouble dealing with the CS people), and I have a read through the feedback on eBay recently.

There's talk of eBay disabling thier account, THAT'S how bad they are...

I have bought a couple of basic items from them, but would never consider spending any more than £20 there.
#22
Link didn't work for me but if you go to ebay then search for item number 350355814462

Perfectly good netbooks, I bought 3 last time, 1 had a problem, sent back for repair and only partially repaired so I requested a refund and it was given without question.

So I can heartily recommend them, you are buying refurbished but you get a 12 month guarantee, so you can't go wrong.

Does anyone know if it has a recovery software with it. I don't expect a recovery CD because it doesn't have an optical drive, but then how would you recover windows for example? thanks

Despite not having a CD drive, mine came with a CD. The webcam doesn't work though, will have to see what their CS says.

Edit: They don't seem to be answering the phone. Not great CS really is it?

OK so theres talk of eBay disabling their account - did they?

I actually meant more about you saying 95% of their stock was faulty....I think thats a bit of a slur to be honest.

Yes its refurb, yes its an ebay seller. But these guys are no worse than anyone else.

I've also read the feedback (which is 99.3% positive BTW), and the posts on this thread generally PRAISE the CS. There is ONE negative comment on this thread regarding CS.

All in all - dont exaggerate.

Afraid the Wireless does have to switched on with the Fn + F1 keys every time you start up, this is on all of these netbooks. Not a huge hassle.

A workaround i found was to use hibernate, under power option you can set closing the lid or pressing the power button to hibernate. Then switch on has wireless enabled if it was enabled when you switched off.

I suspect there must be a registry setting that could be changed to fix this but google didn't help.

Thats normal on this netbook for starting the wireless , it also helps conserve battery power! Just press FN + F1

Agreed - not a massive hassle.

The pain is when I forget to be honest - its my least used machine, so I'm not used to enabling the wireless. So it usually takes me a couple of minutes of "dur...no google page...why?" until I click on!

Does that come with Windows? The Zoostorm does and I know many people hate it but it is a plus to me.

I only got 1 DVD for the 3 I bought.

It has a windows image file to restore to factory settings, but it lacks clear instructions for how create a usb drive from it. Looks more likely you would need to use an external DVD drive.

Also remember that when you buy this item if you have issues you dont have to contact argos outlet, you contact the refurb company thats given in the letter in the box, Mine arrived and was brand new except it had the wrong mains adaptor, when i phoned them they were so polite when i told them i needed it replacing asap as i was going on my hols, they even offered to send it by courier to my holiday destination to avoid inconvenience, but as it happened it arrived within 24 hrs of phoning so a thumbs up from me !!!

I've called them a few times with my issues and always answered.

As Digit says, it's D&J Henry you need to contact on 024 7688 6800. They are the people who refurbished and they handle repairs/returns etc. I think it's a girl called Jo I spoke to each time and she was fantastic, arranged DHL for the pick up, and when I'd wasn't happy after the first only partial repair and I asked for a refund, this was given without question.

Does anyone know if this could be turned in to a Hackintosh running Leopard or Snow Leopard?
