Band Of Brothers Blu-ray
Band Of Brothers
Product Review
Release Date: 10 November 2008

This 10-part HBO television miniseries focuses on Easy Company, a group of American soldiers in World War II, tracking their experiences from the beginning of boot camp to the end of the war. Anchored by actors Damian Lewis and Ron Livingston, the series gives detailed attention to their experiences as a group, as well as the way that each of them develops individually. Based on historian Stephen E. Ambrose's book of real-life accounts, BAND OF BROTHERS was executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks, who worked together on SAVING PRIVATE RYAN. Hanks also directed one episode, featuring his son, Colin Hanks.

BEST series ever... and way better than the current Pacific which is airing (though it had an awful lot to live up to!)

See, I can understand the appeal of watching this on Blu Ray, due to the epic visuals... I never see the point of paying for a blu ray of something like "Marley & Me", really...

Heated.

'Marley and Me' is better than 'Band of Brothers'. Discuss.

I have the original DVD boxset which looks superb on my Sony HD tv. Is it worth buying again just for the BluRay visuals or are they only marginally better than what I'm currently having watching upscaled?

They looked significantly better than DVD quality to me but the main draw to the Blu-ray version wasn't the quality for me. It was the commentaries by the veterans on all the scenes that is included with the Blu-ray version.

Good apparently. Graded 'Silver Tier' here:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1168342

"The titles in this tier are representative of good picture quality that is above-average and a significant upgrade over standard definition. The image will demonstrate a sharp nature that begins to approach a stronger quality of depth and dimensionality not present in the lower ranked tiers."

I have it and to my eyes it's excellent.

I completely agree. I expected to be disappointed but it was fantastic. Episode 6 is possibly the best TV I've ever seen.

It's a bit of a HUKD favourite from what I can tell. I think everyone's always been a bit shocked by how something so good can be so cheap, especially on Blu Ray. Given the quality and positive reviews it always gets, this along with Planet Earth was the definition of a Blu Ray bargain in 2009 and continues to be as it keeps dropping in price. The hot votes speak for themselves!

Considering that is the only blu ray edition out, then yes

Thanks for this op. I have been watching this for the 1st time over the last week. I borrowed it from a friend and I am hooked. Was just looking for if I could get it for under the usual 17.50 mark and this is just the temptation I needed to buy. After I have finished watching I will definately watch again as it takes a while to get used to the characters. I am 7 episodes through now and am just about getting to know them. The sound is especially good through my pcm sound. The bombs sound like they are in my living room lol.

Well I've gone and ordered it, I'll wait until I get the Samsung Surround sound from play.com before I watch it

the DVDs do look great, but the HD version is a definite improvement, worth £16 if you love the series.

Already own the tin DVD set and I don't even have a Blu-Ray player but I got this.. Jesus.

Thanks though.
