If Carlsberg did mini series, it'd be called Band Of Brothers

Now shows as £17.85 but still good price for this epic war series.
#8
they really raised the bar with this, if they manage to top it with Pacific then we're gonna be in for a real treat!
#9
I have this and I can honestly say the effects through your surround sound system are brilliant.(crank up the sub-woofer)

I already have the DVD's and love the series. How much better is it on Blu Ray?

Not really, no. Band of Brothers is based in the European theatre of war, The Pacific... well, just there - such as the battles in the Soloman Islands.

I've already watched the first 3 episodes of The Pacific, and it would need to do a hell of a lot more to catch up to be as good as BoB though. I won't give anything away of course, but there's no character development whatsoever, so you don't feel any emotion if someone dies etc...

The battle scenes, while excellent in terms of realism are few and far between, and have occured mostly at night so you can't see "everything".

I've been told though, that as they start expanding towards the Japanese homeland, it gets a bit more intense - and hopefully, a bit more interesting to watch. As it stands, I'm not in the "need to watch it now" frame of mind when the episodes are available.

As for the deal - this is indeed a good deal. It wasn't that long ago that the DVD's alone, were still going for £35-40 in most stores. I just wish I had a Blu-Ray player / better TV. The lottery win will take care of this... when it comes in! ;-)

B.O.B beats it hands down I'm afraid - unless it improves after the 3 episodes seen so far. It's not bad ,it looks fab with lots of computer generated pics etc - it's just that B.O.B is so damn GOOD.....and that's why there'll be more than a few disappointed people out there when it's released. Always thought it'd be a tough act to follow. I doubt B.O.B series will ever be bettered..

I agree totally, it is not that the pacific is bad, just it has too much to live upto. You felt emotionally attatched to the B.O.B characters but they have missed this out in The Pacific and gone straight to war.

Believe me, B.O.B is vastly superior, you are in for one hell of a treat

It looks like you stand alone on this one. It's not just the folks on here who have laid claim to BOB being far superior, but countless websites have also made that claim too.

There's no character development, and 90% of any fighting as occurred in pitch black so you can't see how the men are coping.

If you honestly believe the first 3 episodes from The Pacific are better and more enjoyable to watch than BOB, there's something seriously wrong with you. I understand it wasn't all action 24/7 but 30% through a series, and I'm still waiting for something decent to happen that will have me talking about it for days. BOB had this in almost EVERY episode.

Thank you. Ordered. Heat added, reputation added. Superb mini-series.

From every report I have read, it appears that the Bluray version isn't worth upgrading to, as the way the series is filmes with the slightly grainy effect, means it isn't a better picture.

I have the DVD's and wonder if it is worth upgrading to, though for this price, not much to lose.

I placed my order on the 5th and it still hasn't arrived. What are they usually like for delivery?
