I still think the police would class this as a weapon despite the "torch" function.
No different from an 6 D cell lag light that's been legal for years.

Except this has been entirely designed from the ground up to be an offensive weapon with a torch in it. It would be completely illegal and carrying it even for use as a torch would not pass the muster to avoid getting lifted by any police officer.

Yes a multi C/D battery torch can be used as a weapon but it's not got a grab handle built in to make it as such. Almost anything can be used as a weapon in the right hands. A piece of paper can be a deadly weapon if used correctly.

Crown Prosecution Service
Section 1 of the Prevention of Crime Act 1953 prohibits the possession in any public place of an offensive weapon without lawful authority or excuse. (Archbold 24-106a.)

The term 'offensive weapon' is defined as: "any article made or adapted for use to causing injury to the person, or intended by the person having it with him for such use".

Emphasis mine, this item falls under the guidance of made for this purpose, there being 3 areas of offensive weapons, made, adapted or intended. This part being the relevant section.

- any article made to causing injury to the person

Your other generic large torch falls under the other heading of intended, but the police have to prove that intent if you're carrying the torch with you. If you're out for a walk and have it with you I'd be willing to guarantee they could say nothing to you unless you start doing something with it.

Furthermore how this is still up I will never know as it's patently obvious to anyone with any sense that this item would be illegal to own, possess or carry in public.

Anyone know how the authorities would take to you having this in ur car?
Offensive weapon. No justification for having it. Just keep a tire iron under the seat like the rest of us!
Excellent, can these be modified for stunning effect?
Ive wrapped mine in glitter, it's fabulous!

I'd say it's got all the attributes of a made offensive weapon and likely to get you nicked.

The Maglite is legal because is a torch, trying to explain a baseball bat with a torch is gonna be a tuff one :)

Saying that ordered one a few weeks back :p

Not going to go into the weapons law in the UK right now as its a minefield, but basically nothing is classed as a offensive weapon and everything is classed as a offensive weapon oO

ie....

Plod: whats that 6D maglite for ?

You: Hitting people ............= Your done

You: Shining light .................= Your fine

But anything that looks like a offensive weapon will get you done ............ie: a baseball bat with flashlight X)

Ok behind the back door at home tho oO

my mate got pulled and searched as his car "matched" the description of a wanted car. He had one of these in the back of his seat and they seized it with no further action taken.
