I think you can as you are allowed to operate cb radios.

No you can't use them unless 'hands free'

Handheld device – something that "is or must be held at some point during the course of making or receiving a call or performing any other interactive communication function".
Device – "similar" to a mobile phone if it performs an interactive communication function by transmitting and receiving data.

You're allowed to use a 2 way radio (push to talk, and the audio cuts off while you talk).
see https://www.askthe.police.uk/Content/Q659.htm
This was in place for taxi, ambulance etc.

However, if you're caught driving badly while using one, you'll be fined as though you're using a mobile phone, as well as dangerous driving.

Don't forget that to transmit on 2meter and 70cm frequency you'll need a ham radio license, or you'll be trouble with the police from Ofcom and/or other ham licensed operators.

Anyone know if you can get fm radio on these?

yes you can, hit call button and takes you to FM radio. Works better with high gain antenna, at least where I am.

maybe, but what they sell you is a scanner, so bigger frequency range. So depends on frequency your local mosque transmits on.

sub channel 1 is 67.0mhz, sub channel 2 is 71.9 and so on. you will have to set ctcss tones to whatever channel you want to use. do search PMR 446 sub channels ctcss tones.

does anyone here know if there is a channel (s) which provides the greatest range?

probably be around 136mhz range with a high gain antenna on full power, if your outside that is and full line of site. Better still get CB radio.

What is the idea of this if I have ctcss tones turned off on the binatones?

most PMR radios you can't programme or turn settings on or off, so most will listen for ctcss tone. Try it and see is the simplest option.

Tried this and still the same, baofang can still pick up binatone but not the other way round, may give up and use the baofangs on the frequencies they came with and just not use with the binatones.
