I've read very complimentary comments about this book. It should be an interesting read.

I used the delivery voucher and then used 100 of my Book Points. Result: No charge. :)

Hows he had time to write a book?!

"It was first published in 1995 after Obama was elected the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, but before his political career began."
i.e. it's more about his early life than politics

Should make a good present.

But more importantly will he make a good President?

I do laugh reading about all this stuff with Obama being the first "Black" president - well as far as I see it - they still don't have a "Black" President. :whistling:

Funny that Bob Marleys dad was White but he's a "Black" Icon - at what point do we decided somebody is a "White" icon when people are actually of mixed heritage

I can't say this book appeals to me but consider he was the better candidate

The delivery code doesn't seem to be working for me? :(

When I entered it, I got an alert dialogue saying "promotion code has been successfully applied", but the page itself still said "Delivery will be added on the next page. Standard Delivery (to most of the UK) is £3.50 or free if you spend over £25." However, towards the end of the checkout process I was able to choose standard delivery for £0.00

Pointless american used word of the day:- 'knowledgeability'

Scary overtly patriotic term of the day:- 'American exceptionalism'

Who would want to read about this bloke?..... just another pawn.... could probaly tell you his life story aswell.... went to yale or harvard, then joined the masons, had important blood relations and so fourth. We all know presidents are selected and not elected and votes are mearly a bunch of statistics that reflect what people are thinking.
Don't believe the hype.

Ethnicity is about more than skin colour. If both of his parents were black and he was born an albino, would you say he was any less black? Is Michael Jackson still black?

He may not fit into your narrow view of racial profiling, but I'm sure that neither he - nor any of his supporters - will lose too much sleep over that.

Yeah, and I heard the moon landings, like, totally didn't happen; and if you do stuff with the flight numbers of the 9/11 planes with Wingdings fonts, it like totally predicted it and stuff.

Er, yes. That's always been the point of voting - to determine the general will. What else do you think it's meant to be?

Lol, there's alot of disinformation out there and it's hard to tell the truth from lie. I'm not even going address your comment about the moon landings as i can see your sarcasm. What i meant by the above quote was that votes serve no use at all but to give the "goverment" an idea of who the public favour. ie: the next president is pre-determined by thoose at the top. That is my opinion only and laugh all you'd like.

I'd toss the question back - how "white" does a person of mixed heritage have to be to be considered "White" in your eyes? :whistling:

To me (others may disagree of course) "Black" generally refers to Africans.

However, the main thing is that text does not convery my irony or sarcasm very well...;-)

I don't actually have a narrow view of racial profiling at all - I believe there is only one race - the "human race" and all of the other characteristics are simply regional or evolved variations.

I'd argue that calling Obama "black" is a far more narrow version of racial profiling at the end of the day, if you are being objective.

Well turning out albino is a genetic defect and wouldn't change the ethnic or heritage group you originate from. Michael Jackson may well have disfigured himself to look like Elizabeth Taylor but he is by no stretch of the imagination, White European.

I didn't vote anything cold, mate. I've read his book The Audacity of Hope and it was brilliant; so even for full price I wouldn't try and deter anyone from buying this.

Ahh, the old throw your question back at you tactic.

Obama is of Kenyan descent, so I guess that makes him somewhat African - and he refers to himself as an African American - commonly, known as a black race.

He is really the epitome of African American, as his father was Kenyan and his mother American.
#36
Does it matter what his skin colour is? All I care about is if he does a good job!

All this racial profiling just gets to me. We all want to kill each other because of religion, race, etc, etc.

Not saying what happened in history was a good thing. It was disgusting.

Example; I'm a white male, with a lovely asian girl and even now we still get looks from people. Doesn't matter what their background is, their colour of their skin. People in general are just ignorant.

The human race will be extinct because of it's own arrogance.

Sorry I don't know why I went off course. Just my thoughts!

I'd disagree that African American = Black Race.

It's certainly a term that Americans with at least some Black African heritage in the mix somewhere use to describe themselves but it's all semantics at the end of the day.
In the non-PC days most of these folks would be more accurately described as coloured ("colored") as in SA.

You seem to be completely missing the point that at least half of him is in fact white - i.e. his mother is white.

Tiger woods has a Thai mother from what I've read, so is really an Asian American golfer as much as he can be described as an African American golfer...

So the formula appears to work like this then?

White + White = White

Black + Black = Black

White + Black = Black

Asian + Black = Black

The only point I'm trying to convey really is that because person "x" has a bit of "black" in the mix you're automatically labelled as "black" they're not - they're mixed-race/heritage/whatever that's all :whistling:

One of my old African-American GF's describes herself as a "mutt"

Anyway - thats enough ******** from me

That's exactly how the President-Elect described himself a few days ago (when answering a question about choosing a puppy). That kind of self-deprecating humour was very surprising (to me, anyway) - it was so British!

The book arrived this afternoon. I'm looking forward to reading it.
