Barclaycard have not made this public yet, but as of July 2007 they are going to be offering 5% cashback on purchases for 6 months to existing customers only, on their existing credit card accounts. This beats other cashback credit card offers hands down. So if you don't have a barclaycard now is the time to get one here, ahead of the offer. If you have a Barclaycard and want the cashback deal, call to speak to Customer Loyalty and ask for it - there's a high probability it won't be rolled out automatically to all holders.

Barclaycard are going to be offering 5% cashback for 6 months from July on all purchases to existing customers. As it doesnt start till July there is still time to get your card from the Barclaycard site in order to qualify for this offer.

Existing members on the MSE forums have called Barclaycard and they have confirmed that this offer is genuine and will start in July.

Hi,

Which Barclaycard are you referring to?
#2
Apparently all cards will get this but I only applied for one today (the Platinum one) so I cant confirm it for sure. If you are an existing cardholder then give them a call.
#3
do u think it's not too late to get a card now?
#4
I applied for one today so if it starts in July there is still time for it to be processed I would have thought.
#5
Well, well, they've (BC) started to feel the pinch have they?

I've had a Barclaycard for over 30 years and the last few have seen me use it less and less, in fact I don't think I've used it for well over a year!

The reason? Barclaycard gradually removed all its advantages like Points for Prizes, discounts on Ford vehicles, free insurance on purchases and its greatest perk, the price guarantee.

I know all these things had to be financed somehow but removing them all in exchange for a so called 'lower' APR has seen me and thousands like me move to other cards.

I'm glad though that I didn't cancel 'cause 6 months @ 5% will be very nice, but once it ends I'm back to my other cards.

I have Barclaycard Gold Visa and got this offer last week, says on all purchases between now and September, nowhere on my letter does it mention starting July. Max cashback is £20 in any month so thats about £400 worth of spending per month. I used it to get the Sony Vaio laptop so should work out at £385
#7
Hi
Ive just rang them and they literally told me 5% cashback for 6 mths
#8
nice find :)
#9
Been speaking to Barclaycard today.
Only just seen this.
They never mentioned it on the phone...lol
#10
Been a Gold card holder for years but rarely use it these days for the same reasons as Berisford. I used to buy loads of things with it to be able to use their price match guarantee or free extended warranty which were real bonuses but when all that went, so did my use of it. I tend to pay cash these days for anything less than £100 in shops as it drives me bonkers waiting in queues for people to pay by credit card for even small amounts. I might just dust it off again now though as 5% cashback is definitely worth having.
#11
I have a BarclayCard and I've not used it for years, same reasons as above, no incentives.
I may start using it now.
#12
Sounds a good deal, I guess this won't include Sky Card which is technically backed by Barclaycard. Sky Points aren't very good.
#13
Dont suppose a Student Barclaycard would be included - will give them a try tomorrow though!!! If ya don't ask ya don't get!!!

Is this a slightly different offer or are Barclays trying to fool us in to thinking we're getting unlimited cashback for six months when we're only getting a maximum of £20 per month for three months? :?
#15
too good to miss, thanks
#16
If this has a £20 limit per month, we are perhaps better off getting Capital One's 4% card assuming it doesnt impose such a stingey limit?
#17
Well I've just had a talk with BC and the girl I spoke with said that no such offer exists and if there was such a deal then it would only apply to certain cards/customers and the bottom line is; nothing for me!

She said that they do have a cashback offer for certain cards/customers but it only applies to Supermarkets and petrol.

So either the deal never existed or they've pulled the deal or they're telling me porkies........
#18
Anyone can get a Gold card these days.
#19
I just phoned them and they knew absolutely nothing about it.

Maybe I was calling the wrong number? I tried the main customer services one...
#20
Just spoke to a customer service advisor, he said whatever deal they offer, I should receive a letter on the post about it.

I didnt received any letter. (yet..hopefully) :?
#21
phoned barclaycard and was told it is by invitation only

An update from 'ontheup' from the MSE forums:
Ok people , I just got off the phone from BC and they state that they do have plans to bring out a cashback scheme !!

BUT and its a big but , it is pointless ringing them up at least for the next 4 weeks .

They have no idea who can get the cashback also when it is going to start and have no details about it at all .

They say the best think to do is ring in 4 weeks and they willbe more than happy to help anyone out who wants to apply and by that time they will have details of the scheme and wether its all card or just some cards etc etc etc , the scheme is due to start around the end of July or the first few weeks in August.

The also knew it was on this website and said they had lots of calls lol !!!!

Hope this helps the ones who havent called yet (the ones that have will know this already)

just 2 add my 2c. I too have a barclaycard had have flatly refused to use it progressively since they stopped to give nectar points and basically stopped anything that cost them any money. They card therefore sucks. The funny thing was they way they had explained cancelling it all was “we have listened to customer feedback and…”. What a load of BS.

Anyhow I now us Amex Platinum (1.5% cashback) and Morgan Stanley Mastercard (1% cashback) for everything I but. Barclaycard may be surprised if they make 5% just how much business they get. But they cant keep it up for long else they will not make $$$.

An update from 'ontheup' from the MSE forums:

Cheers for the update.

I've applied anyway but its doubtful I'll get one anyway as I was reminded the other day that I still haven't registered on the electoral role :whistling:

i'm amazed people have had any luck getting them to understand their query let alone getting a response.

i spent 20 minutes on the phone to them yesterday (on an unrelated matter) and had to explain myself a dozen times, put on hold several times, made to wait on transfers to other departments - and then not transfered. I then emailed to check that they'd done what i'd asked - only to be told that they hadn't.

Call centres overseas are false economy - they may save the company - but it costs us with extra phone bills and costs us since there is no effective customers service - just staff with broken English that don't understand English properly and really couldn't care less.

In the forum click the New Topic button in the top right when in the section you want to post it. E.g. if it's a deal you want to post you should be in the hot deals forum at the time. There's loads of information available in the Miscellaneous section to help you.

p.s. what are you going to post? Do we get a heads up before everyone else?

I have a Platinum card and have had an account for over 30 years.

I mailed B'card and got this reply

"I am sorry to inform you that your account is not eligible for the
cashback offer.

I am sorry to disappoint you on this occasion.

May I inform you that if there is any promotional offer on your account,
it would be sent out to you."

I have mailed them back to find out just what t you need to be eligible!
#30
It seems we are all being told slightly different things. I rang them yesterday and was told that the offer would be rolled out to ALL existing customers "soon". I was told that the planned start date had been 1st July but this date has been put back. However, I was told that all cardholders would get a letter advising them of the offer before it starts.
#31
Phoned them today to check condfitions and I was told it would only be eligable for cashback at Certain stores.
They had confirmed cashback was due to be introduced mid summer when I called to cancel my card several months ago. They then offered £20 worth of vouchers If I kept my card until them . Duly received two £10 vouchers from bonusbond.
They can be used in most big stores. I am wondering if these are the stores Barclaycard has an agreement with. for example not taking their commission for six months. Do not know only speculation on my part with information received

Sounds to me that there is a lot of different info being given out to people about this. I really do think its customer specific. My letter arrived in June and is dated June and says for ALL purchases between now (ie June) and September, no mention of it having to be at any specific retailer. Its true that barclaycard has some special offers for its customers at www.barclaycard.co.uk/deals but this is not a requirement of this offer, unless someones letter says so-well not for me anyway. I have called them to check and they chap said it was customer specific, ie if you have been invited/have the letter then you are DEFINITELY eligible. I suggest that if you have a letter to refer to that as it seems some people are being told June/July and if not then not to assume its for all customers. If I had a scanner Id scan my letter here to show the info+terms and conditions that I have been sent but I dont. I also think the original title should reflect this ie its not July across the board, perhaps edit to 5% cashback offer for selected customers
#33
just gave them a ring now, 7 minutes on hold and 5 minutes talking to a lady, in a UK based call centre. She wasn't aware of any offer initially and so she loked through a list of deals. She read out her bulletin and it stated it was for specific merchants, like petrol stations, diy stores, etc, no definitive list though. She also said that details would be on my statement next month, though I don't see how that could be the case.

Basically it seems that there is an offer available but she wasn't able to activate it on my account, she said to try calling back during the week between 8am and 8pm, and sorry she couldn't help at this time.

Seemed genuine enough, I don't think she had been briefed on it, so perhaps it is by invitation only.. I might try calling again next week and see if there is any way of blagging it, but early indications are a no!

Hope someone else gets better luck

I rang cust services loyalty team last week and was told the following!!!!

FACT!!!!!

5% for all customers till end january from july1st no limit

If Barclaycard know this link is on here my question is?

Be brave enough to post this on here and if you will not second question is?

ARE YOU LIARS????????????

PS this is actually a good business move for barclaycard to get people using it again but i bet their greed will stop them!!!!!!!!!
#35
Took everyones advice and phoned stating I knew of third parties offered this deal but although a customer of Twelve years standing they refused to concede they new of this offer. I even reiterate they advised me in May about it. STILL no concession.
Therefore cancelled my card. No benefit no use!!
Good luck to all who have solicited the deal

I remember that letter - what a ****** joke it was too! You also forgot to mention that they took away the price drop guarantee and didn't they do free travel insurance too at one point?

I still have my Barclaycard but hardly use it now either although I've had it for 20+ years now. I used to use it for business purposes and once racked up 40,000+ Nectar points in one year :p
#37
Yeah, they used to do free extended warranties too. Nowadays they don't have anything worthwhile.

Did you receive a letter?

This is the first Ive read that the promo will last until January (as opposed to september) and no limit (upto £20 per month according to my letter). Sounds like BC cant organise a **** up in a brewery.... Anyway we will soon see as my cashback should be credited in the July statement, if it isnt I will be faxing them the letter I have! Sounds like Barclaycard havent briefed their CS very well, different answers coming out all the time!
#39
Hmmm.... Just called them too and the CS guy knew nothing of the offer despite discussing with his colleagues. Looks like this may be a one-off for certain customers or else a 'Red-Herring'
#40
Just had a convesation with barclaycard, they are not revealing anything YET..... but wait till August and something special will be happening, so order your barclaycards as it will only be for EXISTING customers
