I'll wait to buy one :)
#4

wouldnt mind one of these, delivery is £5 and they dont offer collect in store in sunderland !

any where else as cheep ?
#6
if you add the SCIENCE MUSEUM SM2310 in another thread the delivery is free
#7
Tried to order one of these earlier this afternoon, but it was claimed I could not collect at either of local shops. Quit and re-tried after a short while and it seems I can now collect from one - will pop in later (hopefully sucessfully collecting). Strange!

Steve

PS I don't understand what Scraggy says about 'SCIENCE MUSEUM SM2310' for free delivery? that could save me some time and a little drive.
#8
Not really a saving as such but if you add this to your basket
http://www.comet.co.uk/cometbrowse/product.do?sku=207110
You can get free basic delivery which, it also works out £1.00 cheaper than if you had just added deliveryand you get the money box, sounds a bit confusing but you'll get what I mean if you try it.

Reserved it. I'll pick it up later on today.

This works with USB 1.1, yeah? I'm not 100% sure if I have USB 1.1 or 2.0.

Good price for this DealMeIn, thanks .... looks good too :)

Just picked one of these up from Comet, the casing feels like brushed aluminium, it has a Seagate hard drive inside, very happy with purchase.
#16

They WILL work on 1.1 but VERY slowly, ie waste of time so not worth it. Anyway, got the Maxtor one the other day and realised I needed another one but pcworld had upped the price. These are MUCH better build quality wise and look a lot nicer too, even got an on/off switch :)

EDIT: By the way, if you do plan to buy one with personal collection then RESERVE FIRST. Crafty ******s at the Aylesford store have a shelf full of 250GB versions at the same price.........

It's been unavailable for at least 2 hours for store pick up, then suddenly it became available! Got 1 reserved - Thanx OP!

lose 22gb by formatting. does this sound right for this drive. They should advertised available space when formatted. Otherwise happy with it. :viking:

I think that every HDD manufacturer advertises capacity in 1GByte=1,000,000,000 Bytes. In reality, 1GB = 1,073,741,824 Bytes.
So, if you take 320,000,000,000 and divide it by 1073741824, then you'll get ~298.023GB. Which is what you should see.

I have just purchased this also from the retail counter. The HDD is definately a seagate. Seagate make quality HDD. HDD model number is ST332082.

Best buy this year.

What reviews?

Mine didn't seem to heat up too much when I had it on yesterday... My 4 year old internal hard drive must get much more hot; it's been on 24/7 for all those years!

So far, I'm very happy with my new hard drive. I'll be leaving my Iomega on today to see if it gets as hot as you seem to be saying it does.
#24
im very pleased with mine, had no heating probs having left it on for a few hours, smooth as so far

Does anyone know if the internal seagate drive is the PATA (Standard EIDE) or SATA interface. I know external interface is USB2, but I am thinking of removing the internal drive from this as using in an XBOX. Have been looking at buying this drive in PATA form, might as well go for this exteranal if it has the interface I'm looking for, and get a drive enclosure for about the same price.

Regards,
Paul

those that are downloading big files over 4gb make sure you format drive to NTFS. As the drive is preformatted to FAT32 and will not allow files bigger than 4gb.
#27
It is PATA.

Yep - Default FS is FAT32! Highly recommend NTFS!

Couldn't seem to find the coin sorter (guess they're out of stock) and also couldn't find drive on Staples website.
Any ideas??

I reserved this item at £69.99 last nght (have printed confirmation of my reservation showing this price), but the item is now showing up as £89.99 on the Comet website - will they honour the price I reserved at, or will they charge me the new price? Is there a set policy or does it depend on the particular store?
#30
aaah nuts, i always miss out.
ill try staples.
