This is from Metro: ''http://metro.co.uk/2016/12/17/do-not-eat-warning-over-lidl-gravy-due-to-paint-thinner-contamination-6329543/#ixzz4T8XhdpdS

''Unsafe levels of a paint thinner chemical have been found in two batches of gravy sold by Lidl. The supermarket is recalling Kania Gravy Granules over fears that the presence of xylene could pose a health risk, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) said. Exposure to the ‘harmful’ chemical causes irritation of the mouth, throat, nose and lungs and can even lead to heart problems, liver and kidney damage, and a coma. An alert on the FSA website said: ‘Exposure to xylene in food products represents a health risk as it can cause adverse effects such as headache, dizziness, nausea and vomiting. ‘The contaminant levels in this product exceed those set to minimise this risk and the product is therefore being recalled as a precaution.''

pretty sure if the retailer is recalling a product, then it doesn't really require the confirmation of a newspaper to verify it being true

Probably just your bad cooking :p

Lidl/Aldi foods DO taster different, because they use less salt/sugar in their foods than UK brands - who used to be paid to use sugar by the government until only a few years ago.

Agree, goldenfry gravy is the mutts nuts. Just 79p for a large tub at home bargains too.
Think I'd rather eat paint thinners than bisto gravy, awful stuff.

Ditto prefer goldenfry over any bisto but getting harder to buy. I have started using Morrison's own that's on par with goldenfry.

Lidl Kania and Aldi Quixo are both made by Goldenfry
