Basmati Rice £0.66 a kilo (min 15kg) @ Tesco

As part of their tastes of the world promo tesco are offering buy 3 get cheapest free. They are selling 5kg of Basmati for £5.

It's Tesco branded in an orange sack with an indian design - not with the main foreign foods, but in a big display as you come into the store.

We eat a lot of Basmati, so seeing rice at £1 a kilo in 5kg bags was a good deal, getting it at 66p a kilo is a bit of a no brainer.

Your mileage may vary though.

Thankyou, we always welcome a rice deal! ..15 kg is not a problem to get through in our household either!
(I prefer sticky rice myself, but it's the wife who gripes if it's not Basmati) ...my ratio is 5 to their 1 portion as well, not fair! ;)

If it's the Tilda you're after Netto were doing a great deal on a week ago - picked up a couple of 10Kg bags at a similar price from Hollyhead - the deal might still be on.

#9

Why would anyone want 15kg of rice? I know bulk-buying and all that but I have friends who think its essential to buy catering sized Veg oil / rice / flour etc etc

Just buy smaller quantitities!

And why would anyone want Tesco branded Basmati? Just stick to the tried & tested brands!

We vacuum seal it into smaller bags & also store in large parfait jars, lasts well.

I agree - we get AAA thai fragrant rice which there are several brands around 11-14 pounds for 10 KG from the local chinese supermarket.

I am sure most big cities have a few asian/oriental supermarkets where you can get stuff like soy sauce, rice, noodles, garlic, ginger, asian veg and spices at a much better price than a normal supermarket. Most of the supermarkets cater for trade, but they would never turn away someone who just went in to pick up a few bits like I do.

Rice gets a lot cheaper the larger the bag is. I bought a 10kg bag of basmati from Amazon for £11... that's £1.10 per kilo... you won't find 1kg of basmati rice for £1.10 anywhere!

I just store mine in a bedroom cupboard lol :)

I paid a £1 from ASDA today for 1kg. Infact it was only 98p!

Some people will go through a lot of rice very quickly and since it keeps then it's a bit of a no brainer.
