Not at my local store they weren't :(

I concur though; definitely worth the purchase price.

I'm not too sure the Collector's Edition is good value (at the Recommended Retail Price of £59.99; and now inflated beyond all common sense at any retailer other than HMV... yes, I talking about you, Play.com Traders & Amazon Marketplace Traders), but the 'standard' release is a contender for game of the year.

Has anybody tried the Challenge Mode(s)?

I am mid-way through the story mode (on 'Easy'... coz I'm a wuss... and I wanted to get all the PS3 Trophies [a.k.a Xbox 360 Achievements] before progressing to the hard skill levels). I also started playing the "Challenge Mode" last week. The PS3 has an exclusive (& free to download) "Play as The Joker" Game Pack on the PlayStation Store. I'm not sure if the '360 has any add-ons of that nature, but it must surely be coming... I cannot imagine the chance for extra revenue is being passed up. There is also a Scarecrow challenge mode too. This was part of the pre-order from GAME, but I missed it as their Customer Services department chose to be really slow in responding to my query about the Collector's Edition & by the time they did the release date had passed :(

All this aside... & without wanting to spoil any of the plot; once you get outside of the Asylum the game turns into more of a "sandbox/free-roaming" type where you can choose what order to do side-missions in, where to explore & which fights to start in your own order, so it is not as linear as the early stages. The only gripe I have about it is that Batman is such an arrogant **** [EDIT: word that rhymes with barse & means 'bottom'].

He is more like the original comic book character, but it still grates. Oh yes, and after a while the audio from the characters tends to repeat a little too often. It is funny once, or twice, but when you've heard the same line from The Joker 30+ times, it stops being amusing... but that's just a small gripe over what, so far, is an excellent rendition of the Gotham universe (that, is well presented to allow you to "catch up" with what background you didn't know about each character).

BFN,

fp.

Awesome game! Hot!
#16
Excellent game, just literally this minute finished it. Still lots to do though with the challenges and the Riddler's riddles to solve. I personally wouldn't say it was all that freeform/sandbox like fanpages did though (although you are free to find and secrets you missed once you finish the game). Well worth full price imo so this price is hot!

Nice to know there is also some more free DLC coming out for it (although people who got the collectors edition don't seem overly happy their map is part of the free content). Info here:

If you play through on Hard or Normal, you will automatically get the easier trophies anyway - discovered this when I completed the game on Normal this week - the Easy trophy was automatically added too.

Challenge rooms are great - later ones (esp the Combat ones) are tougher than tough though! (I'm thinking of Shock and Awe Extreme)

As well as the downloadable Joker challenge rooms, there is also some more mysterious free DLC coming next week, for 360 and PS3 - as reported at Eurogamer and Joystiq

EDIT: Just seen Dichotomy's post above about the free DLC - cheers for the link, gives lots of info

Damn, I was going to post the Hut/Zavvi codes tomorrow once I'd confirmed they worked. Hassles!

As good as the game is, it doesn't have multiplayer, so the price won't be that high for long. Even if you play all dificulty levels, how long you can play it...

great deal, thanks

I find multiplayer is over-rated personally. I much prefer a good single player game with a good story. I just cant get into multiplayer games -

Spawn > Run > Kill a few people if you can > Die > Repeat - just gets old so fast
#24
great great game, have completed the main mode, now for the challenges n gettin 100%.

Playing with a bunch of random people is no real reflection of online games. Online really comes into it's own when you play with a bunch of mates. It then gets terribly addictive.

Get yourself a bluetooth headset and some friends and you'll love any online game.

Doh! Paid £30 yesterday on ebay for a used copy.

Yeah I have friends online and a headset, but i still find it all a bit one dimensional and repetitive, as I say, the Spawn > Kill > Die routine gets really old fast for me. I accept I'm in a minority, but I'm just saying I'd take a good singleplayer game like Bioshock or Batman AA over a multiplayer game any day.

Personal preference I spose

Really. I see new and sealed copies of the game for sale on fleebay for £31 atleast. And "but it now".
#30
once a game has been played used its 2nd hand in my books so 50% off is fair, so my £15/£20 is generous for it to be sold on.
#31
russ, team deathmatch type games can get boring. But if your vary the type of game (such as deliver a bomb, protect an area), it involves a lot more thought. Going in guns blazing won't win.

Anyway, give it another go sometime. You may as well squeeze as much value out of these expensive games as possible!

The deal was for Batman at £29.93 - without codes. The code would have brought it down to £26 odd. So people did get it at the price above, The Hut just raised the price this morning
