I'm guilty of trying every electronic deal going. £450 for a Sharp 37" 1080P TV seemed pretty good.

The site has be really slow for the past 30 minutes I was looking around and trying to find more stuff to order.

How is high def "dead"?
The disc format may be dead but the movie formats (VC-1, AVC & MPEG) are not.
It's still all 1080p with outstanding audio.

IT sounds to me like you're one of the sour-grapes blinkered Blu-ray boys who passed up the chance to have a nice big HD collection for peanuts just cos of a label.

I got 150+ high def movies in HD DVD for next to nothing.
My Blu-ray collection is about 10.

......and after a dismal 'holiday' period (as the world economy goes down the plughole) Blu-ray will be dead enough soon too.
It sure as hell isn't taking DVD's place.

I'm looking forward to the fire sales on blu - I have true Blu-ray multi-region and will be buying up the rare titles cheap all over the world, again.

You carry on enjoying the limited peasants version (PS3) and the pointless expense of the Blu re-releases the rest of us got for pennies on HD DVD if you like.

They're clearly enjoying the influx of orders during what is believed to be hard times, wouldn't be surprised if they keep it going a couple of hours at least.

Lol, was it necessary to say that? Without the PS3 Blu-Ray wouldn't exist.

enjoy the acid youre clearly on.

dead format???? £3 in HMV for something not out till december???

i doth think youre inferring to Batman BEGINS on HD-DVD.

and if i could get it for £3 id be happy.

Think before posting next time.

btw - if you have a halifax rewards account there is always 10% off so its not that great, nor is it really dead for me.

also on the whole blu-ray/hd-dvd front its tedious.

hd-dvd and bluray are the same. one had to win and is was bluray, but hd-dvds are still great value. ok so no new releases but with 100+ titles to buy, its a great way of having a hidef collection without the massive cost of bluray.

i have loads more hd-dvds than blurays, and thats down to cost. luckily i have both, but i can see why those who only have blurays would be bitter.

at the end of the day, i dont think hi-def movies will catch on, and dvds will outlast them easy, as the average bloke doesnt see or care about the difference. dvd beat video of course, but the difference was amazing. dvd to hi-def isnt the same leap.

Bitter?

Go ahead and feel free explain how this is supposed to work (if you can).

I got a stack of high def movies for next to nothing (over 150 of the little beauties).

I bought a dual format multi-region
(that's a Blu-ray multi-region as well as SD DVD multi-region)
player for a song in the USA.

Just to say again as it seems you missed it, I have a dual format player, that means I have Blu-ray too.

So what am I supposed to be bitter about?

Unlike the blinkered 'PS3/Blu-ray only' fanboy element I've laughed all the way to the bank in this little episode.

Excellent! HOT. The blu-ray version of this movie is far superior to the HD DVD version ;)

Very glad I didn't buy that stupid HD DVD add-on when I had my 360 (which now has the RROD - figures!).

And without electricity no format would exist. I mean, how far do you want to go with that line of 'logic'. And it's quite amusing to watch the perpetual bandwagon go around: first the PS3 was supposed to make no difference, then the format survives 'only because of the PS3'.

.

I'm very glad I did buy that stupid wee add-on. £30 and about 20 titles for £3.99. All in glorious 1080p. In fact I bought 2 add-ons. For the price HDDVD's were/are an utter bargain for HD adopters. Also, your comments about the Blu version being better than the HDDVD are complete rubbish.
And I also have a PS3 Bluray.

- Er, what HD DVD version?

This movie has not and never will be released on HD DVD.

If you are referring to the 'Batman Begins' movie on HD DVD then go ahead & feel free to say just how the Blu-ray is 'superior'.
I'm all ears as to how the exact same 1080p encode on Blu-ray is supposed to be "superior".

Ditto the lossless Dolby True HD 7.1 audio.

I'll be waiting. :giggle:

- Then you missed out on an excellent very low cost high def ROM drive to use on your PC.

If you had the necessary PC spec you could even have ripped the HD DVDs, burnt them to a blank Blu-ray and watched them on your game console.

But I expect you let silly labels deny you a choice from a 450+ high definition movie catalogue that saw prices far below even the DVD level.

Not the smartest choice. :p

(although naturally that assumes they ever produce Blu-ray burners & blank media at a sane price - which they are currently about a zillion miles off of doing  )

zetsurin

- Blu-ray died long ago without the PS3.

Unfortunately for the BDA whilst that was a good strategy to win against HD DVD it is working against them against DVD.
The format remains all but invisible outside of the game console niche.

Sadly for Blu-ray by choosing to fight their stupid format war with HD DVD and not reaching agreement with the DVD Forum in the 1st place they have merely ensured Blu-ray remains a high margin niche product.
It can never take the place of DVD as that market is now splintered between several methods of getting HD content.

The looming global economic slump simply guarantees Blu-ray will stay too small for too long and will be overtaken by other technologies in the coming 2 - 3 yrs.

150 HD DVDs? You must have BAD TASTE! :w00t:

Not impressed. I would stuggle to choose ten from the entire limited library.

I don't watch garbage.

Whoosh, right over your head. Every Blu Ray thread has the same people turn up and say the HD DVD version is cheaper. Clearly you aren't very observant or have the sense of humour to work that out.

Muppet.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that I have the slightest interest in whether you are impressed or not at my buying habits.

I could give a flying one whether you like the films I like or not.
You totally missed the point (which is tragically ironic given your own uncalled for & bitchy comments to stingerplash).

The point (which all PS3/Blu-ray fanboys studiously ignore) is that, while the PS3/Blu-ray fanboys make infantile digs about HD DVD, the serious movie lovers got a ton of beautiful high def movies for next to nothing by not -playing at that laughable game console/CE corp/format love-in.

Mind you, if you're seriously saying that out of the 450+ titles that came out on HD DVD you'd struggle to pick 10 you like then I suggest maybe movies aren't your thing.

Blu-ray in fact is the format that struggles to excite the genuine movie lover.
One you've gotten the Godfather trilogy, Shawshank, a couple of others and some music vids it's in large part shallow effects-laden sh!te aimed at adolescent single males.

I see The Criterion Collection keep delaying & postponing their (quality) classic film releases on Blu-ray......maybe they understand only too well that the quality that has appeared so far has sold spectacularly badly and that it's largely stuff like Spiderman 3, Iron Man (pi$$-poor film but impressive audio......for those with the kit to even benefit from a lossless audio track) or even this new Batman movie that sell to the PS3 gang.

I wonder if they'll just end up cancelling?
