Of course the release date (now at Q1 2010) has been getting pushed back steadily since june.

This game is fantastic on PS3, I bet the PC version will be even better due to controls and all that!
I'd heartily recommend this to anyone.
#3
I wonder how long EA will keep the servers up for this game
#4

So true. A joypad to play an FPS isn't natural!

BF2 servers are still going more than 4 years after the game came out.

360 servers down yet again on Friday night :(
#7

Am I being daft?

I love BF2 :)

Unfortunately, so do I ... just 4.5 hours left to get Veteran Armour and then I'll become a Major General, only another 52 hours to becoming a Lieutenant General.

I have wasted too much of my life on the damn game!

BF1942 and BF Vietnam servers are still going, and they're what, 7 years old?

Pretty sick of waiting for this. Can't even preorder til they announce system requirements :x

I'm happy to wait for this. Will be worth it for the PC gamer.

Good price, probably a good game... but there's no way i'm buying from EA downloads. It's more like renting than buying a game, and not a patch on steams system.

You get to download the game up to one year from purchase. There is no way to make a backup for yourself. After that year, you have to pay EA an additional fee in order to download it again, e.g. when reinstalling windows, upgrading your hard drive, or if you buy a new PC. That payment opens up a five year window to download it again. After that five years is up, you don't own the game any more.

Now, you might be thinking, 5 years is ages away. Have a think about it though, thats only like 2004 / 2005 is to us now. I dunno about you but I'm still playing a lot of games from back then! E.g.: Guild Wars, Battlefield 2, Age of Empires 3, Civilization IV, Dawn of War, Unreal T. 2004.... it's not as long a time as you think!

You can put it to disc IIRC.

Great game - as are the whole series. PC the way to do it and yes - the servers are still populated. Good moneys worth

Not officially or easily, like you can with steam. There's a very good guide to the limitations of the EA Download system here:

http://www.cncworld.org/index.php?page=features/tutorials/storeguide

Turns out there is also a lifetime download limit of about 5 downloads, regardless of if you pay for the extended download service.

Skirting around minimum system requirements for PC games is crazy - surely you either have a gaming-capable machine, or you don't.

What specs are you running ? Anything over a basic Dual Core processor + Radeon 4850 will cope just fine.

While I agree this is not a patch on Steam it is very easy to backup the download files - go to

C:\ProgramData\Electronic Arts\EADM\cache\{ 2299999999 }

(number is different for each user)

inside there u will find the download files for all the games u have on ur pc thru EADM

Now just copy the {} folder off to an external HDD etc

u can then reinstall eadm on a machine and login in - copy back th e data to the same location and restart the proggy - really not much more hassle than doing the same with steam and no need to pay EA

Its not that bad a system - just compared to steam - my biggest bug bear is the lack of patch downloads (it says it has them but never does)

Anyways hopes that helps ppl if they are having issues as this along with the coke points is a nice deal
