As they are out of copyright, you could download them legally and free from a torrent site.

Do we not pay the BBC enough already with the TV tax?
#2
Two minor points. Firstly the books are under copyright until at least 2044.

Secondly the bbc radio production is one of the all time classic radio productions. While you may not like paying for something the set used to cost over £100.
#3
Actually - I take that back.

The copyright on books is 70 years from the aurthors death and not the 50 for music etc. I had presumed in error Tolkien died in the 1940s but he lasted until 2 September 1973 meaning 2nd of September 2043 is the end of the copyright in the UK (although could be less elsewhere).

So anyone downloading it is not clever, they are a very very naughty boy.

Absolutely! Remember this fondly from my childhood - brilliant.

Heated and repped.

Very very HOT, couldn't resist ordering this :)

The only thing I don't like about this is Strider/Aragorns voice always reminds me of a "Oh Arr" farmer which sounds stupid to me and I know Tolkien had loads of briitish sounding dialects for each of the races/lands:-D other than that good deal voted hot.

All you got to do is get all three Lords of the rings movies on DVD, convert in a video file on your pc. Then convert to mp3 say 192kb thats CD quality and then just load on your mp3 player and know you can hear the the trilogy while you go out/walking/running with all the actors voices and sound FX. I have done this for the BBC Space Race documentry. You dont need to buy audio books anymore.

I really like the look of this. It would be great in the car for long journeys. 12 cds for £17 - need to get them into the cd autochanger. But if you order it would it make it be Christmas, seems to be a bit of a delayed delivery.

But then you'd miss out on all the parts of the book that were dropped from the film. Plus I can't imagine that the sound track to the film acton sequences are particularly good without the pictures.

Surely a 192kb MP3 is not CD quality.

I'm no expert but it seems rather low.

I have the original box set on cassette, A masterpiece and I must have it:thumbsup:
Heat and rep op
#14
EXCELLENT!!! I've been swithering around buying these on Ebay for ages. My son adores his CD books and this is just in time for Christmas.

I'd add heat and rep if I had the slightest idea how to do it.
#15
Does audio books have sound effects ie explosions, swords clanging?

cd audio is about 1411kb/s, if you encoded at 320kb/s that would be more than enough, but as said this is specically recorded with audio in mind and has all the extras and alternate bits from the books

Definitely expired now... :(

Damn, damn and thrice damn! Missed it.

I got the cassettes 20+ years ago and haven't listened to them since but they were fantastic. Would have like them on CD and at that offer price it's a no brainer.

No. The issues with the copyright on the text actually being good for a few decades yet aside, that wouldn't give you the right to download this particular audio recording - there are rights in the performance, not just in the text.

This is why there's still a market for recordings of classical music.

Just got a dispatch confirmation email. :)
