Unfortunately Be is not available in your area yet.

Well its live in lytham st.annes which never gets anything apart from down the phone so that was why I assumed it was available in a fair few places. It will be worth checking each day - if you read their scroll text you can see there are a fair few number of sites going live each day.

be bordband is very good

they dont throttel torrent downloads so you get max

i get 6mb from be and can download a torrent at 550kB per sec. i get 10mb from ntl and max out at 150kB sec

i am on be there. highly recommend it. keep an eye out for when it 1st comes in your area, as they have special offers. i got it £20/month for life.
#5
Hmmm, its a No No for me I guess.

Been using Be myself - excellent service, only thing that sucks is the modem they provide - ended up replacing mine with a netgear.

I have also heard that Virgin have been testing 50mb/s for home users over there cable network - should be fun!.

Only problem with PSTN services is that they are limited by the quality of the line (phone line) and 24mb will be near the boundaries of the highest speeds acheivable.
#7
This looks like a good deal which I will try so I can get away from VirginMedia Broadband who have ruined the once excellent Telewest setup.

Virgin are now throttling download speeds between 4pm-12am if you download more than a set amount of data , 20mb users are hitting this target within 25 mins apparently . Even though they say they are targetting heavy users a lot of people are up in arms because their speeds are dropping without them downloading anywhere near the limits .

It should say Be There Broadband in some areas, not most areas.

The other package is better:

I see having a static IP asa disadvantage, and i can't get it in my area.

You can still choose a Dynamic, static IP is optional extra but even on Be Pro you can specify dynamic

Oh also you can get £24 by going through quidco!!

Up to always ends up being about a quarter of :(

The 50mbps is delivered through cable though rather than a typical phone line, so the speeds seem pretty plausable. Look how long it took to get 20mb though - by the time 50MB becomes a reality in the UK im optimistic that we'll have a fiber optics network which makes sustaining 50MB connections very possible indeed.
#14
Fiber optics wont happen without a change in how we run our phone system. Most new hosuing estates are fiber optic so its working out there but cables in most areas will remain cables as BT are the ones that will burden all the cost of replacement because currently BT own all the lines and the broadband companies just rent them off BT and their contracts will be for a fixed price for so many years I assume. I really don't see optical coming in anytime soon =[.

I've been with Be Broadband for a few months now and must say they provide a great service

avaliable in east london :D

I had fibre in Sweden 5yrs ago - 100mbit for £22/mth :-) Kinda expensive in Britain though, it only works in Sweden cos they have lots city-centre apartment blocks to connect, and cos they have quite tech-enlightened govt willing to provide some kickstart capital. Here we've got neither.

My O2 contract renews this autumn, I'll probably hang back 1-3months till Decemberish while the new handsets get in stock and become cheaper and so I can replace my £5/m orange unlimited service with a faster o2/bethere service :)
#23
so is that possible to change while i just join bt less than a month?

I'd assume not since I think it's a 12-month contract so you would have to wait until the 12 months is up before being able to switch to anyone - however I can't be sure, so it's probably still best to wait for other answers on the subject.

If you want to check what broadband you can get, go to this site....

http://www.samknows.com

Its a great site....and even tells you where your telephone exchange is located (so you know how close to it you are!)

How did you get £20/month for life mate?
#27
We are thinking of getting rid of Virgin and getting BT. Trouble is, the offer may have ended by the time BT get in gear

Is it likely the offer will be repeated? There is no point in us getting BT if we don't get Be!

(Be is available in our area)

These prices are the standard BE prices. They may change in the future

I've been on Be for about 6 months now. I get 18Mbit downstream connection and 1.2 Mbit upstream. I often find that downloads run at 1.8 MBytes/sec - Yes that's a whole 650 MByte CD's worth of data in about 6 minutes!

It's the best service I've had from any ISP so far and I have suffered particularly badly from Telewest and then had reasonable service from BT business broadband, although their helpdesk is an oxymoron.

There was a scare about a backdoor in their router not long ago, but they have since released a firmware update which, I hope, fixes that. It never affected me though, as I use my own Netgear router.

Be's email service costs extra but I already have an email provider. Sending email is free, and with the 1.2 Mbit upstream speed, it is very fast too.

I'm also on be.

I tend to get around just over 15mb - with a good torrent or a newsgroup download i can get to around 1.3mb/s - pretty tasty - and a huge improvement on pipex :p

As other posters have said - be sure to go via quidco for £24 back :)
#33
Be is the dogs nuts - but the router they make you buy is crap. The only good thing about it is that you can connect up some telephones to it to make VOIP calls directly through the router.
If you sign up buy a Netgear DG834N, it works a charm and doesn't need any tweaking to get you the best speed for your line.
#34
May I ask how far you Be users are from the exchange, as the crow flies? It's not the best way but I'm trying to get a feeler for the distance/speed on ADSL2 in the real world :)
#35
I contacted them yesterday to see what my speed would be and they came back with................1MB :(

Sod that !!!

I hate living so far from the exchange !!!!!!!!
#36
How does the SKY broadband package compare to BE? My exchange supports LLU for SKY/Easynet and BE( activated in last 5 months). It would be much cheaper for me to get the 16MB SKY package than BE. Any feedback on how crap/ good SKY is for LLU broadband?

I'm using pipex its ****, any idea if theres a contract or anything? Got a feeling theres a year contract.. if not then I'm off to virgin ^^

You guys are all lucky...I'm on one of the smallest exchanges around (about 480 residences), so no one wants to unbundle my exchange! I'm stuck with ADSL Max...and just about get 1mb download!!! Terrible.
#39
You lot are lucky sods. I'm with Virgin media and at the moment I'm downloading a torrent. Its taken 46 minutes to download 29.59 MB. The speed I'm getting on this one isbetween 13 an 21 kB/s. Its ADSL as I have a BT line an I'm not that far from the exchange. My speed is the "up to 8" package. Load of old fanny. I think Tre from the Apprentice would be able to describe it far better.

cheesed off

Can we please remember to vote hot or cold because it appears a few poeple haven't heard of this, current users think the service is good but most users of HUKD dont look past the front page.
