Sainsburys frozen basics lasagne. A tasty convenient meal, microwave for 10 minutes and Bobs your uncle. A hot meal for 24p.

How does it compare with the £1.50 Lasagne?

6 times cheaper :p

Have they got a range of meals @ this price?

At face value it looks OK, has anyone actually tried it as its the taste which would worry me.
Bought 'el-cheapo' stuff like this from other supermarkets and it wasn't edible - even the dog left it!

If its anything like the basics Cottage Pie, then I wouldn't eat it if you paid me £20.

I think 'face' value is the perfect summary - you'll be getting the cows eyes, nose, tongue, ears etc......lovely

And you think you'll get anything different in any other oven ready processed meals?
And if you answer yes, I'd really like to know how you can tell, its not like you'd have whole 'eyes, noses, ears etc' floating around in it, its all minced up and called 'beef'

The rules are different for value / basic meal - they can get away with putting far more **** in.

Not quite true. They will always tell you the %age of meat. For example in value sausages its something like 30% meat, and in a premium one something like 60%. I've had the smartprice lasagne (£2.99 for a family sized tray) after checking the RDAs it was almost identical to the normal ASDA one, and £1 cheaper. Very nice it was too.

I quite agree Johnboy.

Plus a lot of this sort of thing is psychological - if this was packaged in some fancy looking box with an elaborate description i.e farm bred cattle, rich italian sauce etc, you wouldn't realise that it was 24p worth of food.

On the whole this is a cracking deal and worthy of heat from me.

adios - M

As with most sainsburys products they go through taste tests before hitting the shelf. I personally think they"re at least just as good as many others which cost considerably more. Also there are no artificial additives or colouring. I dont think Jamie Oliver made them, but if he did he sure as hell wouldnt be as rich as he is now.

reconstituted cow lips

you will always get people who will say they contain all these odd bits where in reality its a shame they do so because it really takes all seriousness away from it. These are quite small in size and furthermore and its actually a case of less meat in it overall instead of crap bits of meat. There would be more sauce, pasta, cheese instead.

Partly agree, but there will almost certainly be bits in it you probably wouldn't eat if served up on their own on a plate - there won't be eyes in it though, or tongue as its classed as offal.
Basically there won't be 'prime cuts' minced in there lol!
Think about it, how can there be for 24p????

These are quite poor, avoid.
