It's not surprising so many pubs are closing when supermarkets do this.

Don't get me wrong, this is a great deal and I am voting it hot. But the licensing authorities clearly have one rule for supermarkets (sell as much as you like, as cheap as you like, at all times of the day, and then don't supervise anyone drinking it) whereas pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs have to jump through hoops to sell alcohol in a clearly defined supervised premises.

Under 50p/pint vs £3/pint - there's only one looser; your local pub :-(

Unless you're a real ale drinker in which case John Smiths does not quite cut it. Explains locally to me why St Austell Brewery and its 'ale pubs' (and the likes of Wetherspoons) are going from strength to strength.

hot deal. strongbow here i come
#14
Will be stocking up tomorrow after work for the long weekend of booze filled antics
#15
Does the discount apply once you've gone right through the checkout bit? As I add em to my basket and it comes up as regular price ie for the wkds £10 each, not 3 for £20. Thanks!
#16
yes shall pick these up tmrw, prob go for the bud-kronenberg and stella.mmm
#17
Shame it doesnt include strawberry brothers like Morrison's did. 24 tins of that for £18 was a bargain.

Apart from the fact it's loser, you are spot on (sorry but I just had to point that out, please forgive me!). Pubs and other licensed premises have the odds stacked against them in the fight against supermarkets, but I guess a lot of different businesses feel that way....

Was in there today and alot of them was 12 packs and not 15 I said to the bloke I thought they was 15 packs but he said no they are 12 packs .

Makes me laugh when people cant understand why supermarkets are cheaper than pub bars etc , they are not just paying for the beer it's everything else as in the facilities . What I mean is do asda or tesco have slot machines , pool tables , darts , live espn
banned#23
Sorry didn't finish I mean the beer costs more in a bar cause your paying for the entertainment etc

except most bars have stopped paying the entertainment the "going rate" using the excuse times are hard...well if the crowd's small in a bar they don't cut the price of their beer...plus nowadays, it's probably a lot safer to sit in your back garden in the sun and have a drink...at least you're only likely to get into a fight with the wife!

Bars pubs and clubs have had it their own way for too long....times they are a changin'
#25
Well its not just that though, its the fact that supermarkets are happy to make a loss on it to get customers in to the store.

I dont think they like it that much themselves but just have to compete with each other, its no surprise they are keen on a minimum price law.

I don't understand the comparison - to me the experience of going to a pub is very different to drinking at home, and the two are just not comparable. Each has its place. As it happens, once beer reached £3 per pint a few years ago, that was the time when I found myself feeling some resistance to the prices in pubs, but it didn't mean I just upped my supermarket beer purchases and sat at home. The same argument could be applied to food - at Carluccio's recently I paid about £15 for something I could have made at home for about £2.

Wetherspoons seem to be able to sell beer much more cheaply and still make a profit. Maybe they are more of a threat to the small independent pub.

Deal was better at Tesco on the stella. 4 for £25 = 40 X .44Litres = £1.42 / litre

Sainsburys "offer" is 3 for £20 = 30 x .44litres = £1.51 / litre

Daylight robbery

The cans were better value at tesco but the bottles are better value at sainsburys
£20 - 45x284 = £1.56 ltr as opposed to £25 - 48x284 = £1.83 ltr.
So basically paying £5 for an extra 3 bottles at Tesco !

DAMN!!!

Just bought 4 cases of 12 bud for 25 from tesco, just got back 10 min ago.

this is better as more beer in the case

I gave a heads up on this deal yesterday... couldn't be bothered posting in Deals because usually get asked for proof or called a liar, also I didn't have 100% facts on the deal...

clicky
#33
When does this deal start, Because I have some in my online trolley but it shows up as normal price in checkout....help..
#34
£1.01 a litre for Fosters, £1.51 a litre for FFS (full fat stella, not what you were thinking), That is seriously cheap for Fosters and it's a lot better in cans than any of the others. If you don't get a bad batch it's really wheaty.

Yep, same here. I'm assuming the offer is on now so dont know whats going on, maybe they havent updated their system or something.

If they're 12 in a case, aren't we better off at moggies????

John Smiths is the ONLY one that works out cheaper at Morrisons, everything else comes in bigger packs and so is cheaper at Sainsburys ! So if John Smiths is your tipple fill your boots at Morrisons !
Edit.. I think the Morrisons deal may have finished anyway, please correct me if i'm mistaken !

The missus picked up 3 cases of 15x284ml Stella for £20 from our local this morning, which prompted me to check online, and hence the deal was posted ! It's showing online but it looks like people are having issues online !
