Belkin 7" Netbook Carry Case £7.99 @ Play.com (But Still A Perfect Fit For Dell Mini 9!!!)

Once my Mini 9 arrived I wanted a nice case to keep it clean and protected. I somehow stumbled upon this case on Play.com:

* Product Description: Belkin 7" Laptop Neoprene Sleeve - notebook carrying case
* Product Type: Notebook carrying case
* Colour: Black
* Product Material: Neoprene
* Notebook Compatibility: 7"
* Features: Scratch-proof

Like you my first though was 7" - won't fit. I read the review below the item listing though and it sounded promising:

"Customer rating: 5 out of 5 stars Excellent - fits the Dell Mini 9 perfectly
monkeyboy12 | 04/02/2009 |
Even though it's described as for 7" netbooks, it's a perfect fit for my Dell Mini 9. It's a slightly tight fit, but not so tight that I'm worried about splitting it. I'm very pleased indeed!"

So I thought what the hell let's try it. It arrived today and sure enough as the review stated it fits perfectly. Nice and tightly held in place yet not tight enough that it's going to pop or break the zip. Also comes with a hanging hook (that can be removed).

Sure you can get them cheaper elsewhere (I saw the other thread a couple of days back) but just wanted to report my findings. Always liked Belkin and thought their gear was good quality. Some pics in post below.

Been looking for a case mate?

I also bought this 16gb SD HC card (class 4) to boost storage available to me:

http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3583118/Play-com-16GB-SD-HC-Memory-Card/Product.html

I plan on leaving it in the Mini 9 pretty much all the time for music, video, etc. It was £16.99 but they seemed to have bumped it up a quid in the last day or so.

Anyone got a good price on 2gb Mini 9 RAM? Or a decent 16gb SSD? I'm after Runcore but UK stock seems very hard to come by...

memoryc have the runcores - or risk international and go to my digital discount. I would only get 32Gb SSD - 16Gb is not as fast, and stock Dell SSD is quite comparable, unless you ahve the 4g.

ebuyer have nice cases for 7" netbooks - 7.56 If i recall corecly. But hot for this as delivery free.

Play were selling 2GB sticks for a good price. I use one for my Dell Mini 9. I also have this Belkin Case, it does the job well enough.

With regards to the Runcore 16GB. If you get the 16GB, you won't get a significant speed increase (if that's what you're looking for). It will be similar to the STEC SSD the Dell Mini 9 ships with.

With the Runcore SSDs, the bigger the capacity, the faster they run. You'll have to punt for the 32GB to get a noticeable speed advantage.

Link to the one you bought please mate as am unsure if I need a certain type or speed for Mini 9? Sorry never bought RAM before (noob) although I see it's a simple 5 min job to swap it in. ;-)

This one is the one I bought.

There's an 800MHz version, and will work too, but you won't be able to get any speed advantage because the Mini 9 chipset supports 533MHz max.

Am I right in thinking that although not offering any performance advantage the 800MHz version would be doing the work easier thus less heat from the machine?

How come the 800MHz is same price? Shouldn't it be slightly more?

Yes it should run cooler.

I bought a portable DVD carry case from Tesco as I was looking for a bit more protection than a neoprene case.

Thanks for the headsup on this deal :thumbsup:
#17
Darn looks like it is out of stock now
#18
Out of stock, but still £8.38 on amazon marketplace off seller 'softwareliquidation_co_uk' inc postage.
or cheaper in red, £7.96 inc postage from 'Deviltronics Ltd' on amazon too.
#19
Just as a heads up, bought the black one for £8.38 on amazon, arrived no worries.
#20
Can't decide which one to go for... the Tesco one looks the most useful because it'll let you carry the power adaptor, the quilted one has a strap but doesn't look very pretty, the one Jay posted images of looks the nicest but doesn't have room for accessories...decisions decisions...

It's £6.99 at Play-Trade not direct from Play themselves :)
