The packaging didn't mention the 2nd generation, so presumably this is only suitable for the original one. That would explain its appearance in Poundland.
Maidstone's store had about twenty in stock, so good luck with your local store if you fancy one of these.
Currently available @ Amazon for £5.99.

Edit: Note ukcobra's experience with the belt clip...
"I purchased this a few months back, it is dreadful. The belt clip is very poor and it kept dropping off my belt, the last time, it damaged the touchscreen resulting in a 150 pound repair bill"

Yep, the 3G doesn't fit.
Nothing to protect the screen either ...

I got one on the weekend and its fits my Ipod Touch 2G well enough.
Not bad for a £1.

Is the 3G a different size to the original then? They looked the same to me...

available in edinburgh too

This is a bit odd really... the gaps in the plastic appear to suit the iphone 3g, but it does not in any way fit. No chance of squeezing it in either - just no.

The first one is thicker and the headphone socket is totally different.

I've seen them whenever I've popped into Swansea's poundland - there's alot of other model's cases too, like leather belkin cases for iPod classic's etc.. good price in fairness!

Doesn't seem to be any in the Preston branch that I could see.

That poundland site made me bloody jump with that explosion noise. Good price on the case though.

Also available in some 99p stores in London. Have purchased about 3 of them for staff members.

I paid 20 quid for this from the apple shop when I bought my Ipod touch!

no the 3 g and 2 g is to do with the ear sensor, when you put the phone to your ear it disables the touch screen

I know its only a quid but don't buy it and put that 100 pence toward an Incipio Ultra Light Feather Case from iwizz. Best case on the market and only £11!
