Agreed!

I picked one up last time this was publicised here - and it's even better than I expected - very neat piece of design work.

With these don't use your laptop for overly long periods as the heat can't escape and they cook the insides. :)
#7
nice find..thank you:santa:
#8
Using one as I type, these are great. If your sitting there with a laptop cooking your thighs or tumbling around on a cushion just grab one.
#9
gutted - i ordered one of these for my dad last night for £12.99 - its in the packing process so i can't cancel - play should have a price drop policy like amazon! - good price OP just a shame it was a bit too late for me!

pretty sure Notebook manufacturers recomend that they are not used on cushioned surfaces for that very reason.

personally I wouldn't use one but probably a good price/product for folks wanting there Note/Netbook to overheat

Err-No they dont...
You obviously havnt used one.
The cushion is v firm and the laptop sits with the same clearance as it would on a table top.

I think these are ok btw- a little tall/fat for my liking but nice. If you do rest your laptop on your knees or a normal cushion you should buy one of these, or at least think about the damage you are doing by blocking the vents. My partner uses hers all the time and loves it. It will help her laptop to last longer too.
It does not block the vents:?

I have and they do. :)

Though also would depend on what clearance the laptop has so is dependant on which laptop you have.

No problem with venting on Dell Vostro. Toshiba Portage or acer laptops

Oh that's weird then - I've got one (using it right now) and as the other poster said - it is firm and level as a table - there's no way this blocks vents, it has the same clearance as if it was on a table - and it would be the same with any laptop.
I find it works better for me the "wrong way up" (small side down) as it fits my legs better that way, and with the extra space I can even use a mouse on the "work surface".

would some kind owner kindly please supply some dimensions for the flat area on both the 15" & 17" side of this please ?

Bearing in mind that it's not quite rectangular as one edge (it depends which way up you use it) is wider than the other, the dimensions in cm are...

large side = 42/41w x 31L
small side 38 w x 26 L

These sizes are pretty acurate, but the inner and outer edges are curved. I hope this helps.

Maybe its down to the pressure applied by the supports? If your laptop has smaller 'feet', there will be more pressure applied and it may sink in more. They would have to be like needles though after having another look at the one I have here, anything bigger than that could not sink in at all-unless stood on... and I doubt you are doing that while using it. Maybe they changed the hardness between batches, or it just varies because of the material. I dunnoo...
I guess people could order this and try it anyway- if its unsuitable send it back. The concept is a good one imo, having a laptop on your lap does feel natural but can drastically shorten its lifespan and end up costing you a lot more in the longrun.
A nice original little gift idea too maybe?
I sound like I have shares in the things reading back but I just think its a neat little product.
#18
I bought 2 as gifts for others and I find mine gives the same breathability as a table would.

Strange you say that coz my portege r500 is currently scortching a hole in my jeans

will order one, thanks

don't forget the quidco pennies :)

It helps hot laptops. i dont know what you all own, but i own a gaming laptop with a geforce 9800 and of course, the GPU gets incredibly hot, and pushes huge amounts of scorching air down and sideways. The cushtop seems to help because it actually absorbs and spreads the heat somewhat and my machine doesnt overheat even after a couple hours gaming sessions.

Ordered. Been thinking about somehting like this for ages. My other wished for laptop item is a neoprane slip case. Any about?
#23

I got one off ebay for around £3 delivered (buy it now) - from Hong Kong.

Took a couple of weeks to get here but fit my laptop perfectly (an Asus with 11.6 inch screen). If it's a fairly new laptop just type the model number into ebay and it'll probably come up with something, or just type in the screen size.

Somebody else mentioned this deal didn't last long before. If it goes back up in price, Ikea have a couple of alternatives (£2.99 & £9.99). I'm not sure if I can post links yet so just in case I can't... go to the ikea website and search for "laptop support".

Thanks OP!
Just ordered second one for christmas pressies! They are truely great, and just like others have said, no problem at all with heating issues, the legs of my toshiba are quite small, and not much clearance, but the surface of the cushtop is really quite hard so it makes the laptop cooler, not hotter!
#27
thank you

NB I bought this last time round also from Play.com and although I ordered the burnt orange, the one I have is grey (but is perfectly nice), and I concur with other posters about the quality.

I find it makes the laptop seem lighter (as it's easy to handle the cushion with the laptop onboard) - wierd.
#29
Had one of these for last 2 years, simply superb so much easier and a normal cushion and keeps it cool!.
#30
Says £12.99 when i click onto the link....

You are correct in that I haven't used one.

I do not see the need for it, hence I did not vote either way.

Manufacturers DO recomend that Notebooks/Netbooks are NOT used on cushioned surfaces.

I will take your, and others, word(s) for it that it is perfectly safe to use.

I still won't buy one, I use my Notebook on my lap very seldom.

As I said previously probably a good price and product for those that would like to use it.

It's an Amazon re-seller and the P&P almost doubles the price....

Cushioned surface means bed/cushions/pillows/etc because they mold around the laptop and block air vents due to them being extremely soft and flexible.. this isn't a cushioned surface its solid hard foam

I ordered one from Play a couple of weeks ago but 2 days later it went out of stock and stayed like that for well over a week so got fed up, cancelled and ordered from Amazon for about 40p more.
