Just ordered one ... it better be good and effective!
#3
Ordered for my Macbook Pro...thanks!

Nice

At Christmas I ordered 2 of these for family members at roughly this price and then liked them so much I ordered another for myself.

Really cools my laptop down and fits it perfectly (Dell Inspiron, 15.4"). Its plastic leg is a bit flimsy but its pretty good for this price.

Just what I've been after.

Just a couple of questions from anyone who has used this:

i. Can it be used comfortably on the lap?
ii. Does it provides additional USB ports?
iii. If "no" to point ii, can anyone recommend one that has please?

Cheers

P.S. Heat added :)

i'll try...

1. Its ok on a lap but its best to have it on top of something then on your lap. I have a samm lap desk that I use. If you have it directly on your lap the fan doesn't always work very well.

2. It only has the one connection for usb, the cables that come with it has the usb at one end (for your laptop) and just a little cylinder at the other end (for the fan). You cold buy a usb port and connect if you are out of usb space.

Hope that helps!

You shouldn't run it off the battery if you've got a power socket near by, laptop batteries won't last a year if you run it continuously off the battery they only do so many charges.

Just ordered one thanks OP, been meaning to get one for a while, my Dell XPS gets really hot!
#11
Excellent deal. Ordered one for my Dell XPS which gets roasting hot even when browsing!
#12
Thanks for the heads up!

I was looking at these last week, saw the customers comments that they had previously been priced much lower so decided to wait. Glad I did.

Looks good. Is it big enough to take 16" laptops? I noticed Play have a seperate one for 17" so just wondering if this is large enough to hold bigger laptops.

Ah, read the reviews and can see. Apparently it just fits over 15" so no good for 16" then

Yeah I use mine a hell of a lot on battery and after about 18 months the battery life had dropped to 18% of its original charge (according to the in built software).

Mine is 15.4" Dell and fits it perfectly, it hangs over the front a little bit but its not a problem. I would imagine that you might get away with it for a 16"

I actually have one of these for a different purpose!! I have a 360 resting on top of mine!!! Perfect for keeping these monsters nice and cool!!
#18
Check where the fans are on your laptop. I used a similar model on an Acer 1800 series and it cooked the mobo :x

Checked with Acer who still repaired it under their warranty but they advised NOT to use one of these unless all the cooling fans are on the sides.
Just thought I'd mention it.

You might want to go for the bigger brother for a few quids more, but does come with USB hub.

Thanks for the link, little expensive for me.

This sounds a good product but:-
Wouldn't it just cool the outer casing of the laptop, which could then the fool the internal temperature sensors and thus turn the internal cooling fan off leaving the chips to fry?
Or do the chips have temperature sensors built in and so aren't affected by air temperature?

If I'm not mistaken the sensors are inside the case so it should still read the true temperature of the CPU.

P.S I say true temperature it's usually approximated.
