mmmmm ... I have a normal netgear (WGT624) one .... would this provide anything more than the one I have in reality??

I personally don't trust Belkin networking hardware, but this is a good deal for a wireless N router. And regardless of the fact this says "High-speed Internet Connection 300 Mbps", I'm pretty sure this does not have a modem so be careful when buying if you expect it to be an all-in-one solution.

Why do people still think Belkin are a good make? There products are complete ****, appalling quality and reliability. Customer service is also very poor.

The cheap no name 'N' routers that pop on ebuyer at £11.99 inc every now and then are a better buy IMO.

PS - Not used this particular one so it *might* be ok, just going by my experience with all there 'G' products.

I have this & paid £45 on here not long ago & that was supposed to be a bargain Grrrr.

Looks good,But once in a while my connection drops. Not sure if it's Talk-Talk,Phone line or this Router or maybe even the kid playing her PS3 online in the other room.

There's no end of people slagging off belkin kit but i've had the wireless G version of this cable router running for 7 years with no problems at all, so if I was wanting to upgrade to this i'd have no hesitation at all

(head in hands moment)

300Mbps refers to network transfer speeds, not your internet speed which is determined by your line and your ISP.
This router does not have a modem in it as its designed for Cable connections i.e. Virgin Media.

How can you not trust a manufacturer if you dont even know what the specifications mean?

Customer service is also very poor.

I've rung Belkin twice for customer care and got great service both times.

Not an F5D7230 by any chance? I've had one of those for about 6 years - great bit of kit. However, everything I've bought from them since has been utter rubbish. I use a netgear which is very good too.

I want to upgrade to N though, Can anyone suggest a brand that is relatively cheap and very reliable for modern kit though? I've heard nothing good about any N router I've seen on here...

Also, I've had no problem with customer service when I've had a receipt - for USB wireless sticks, they usually send out a free replacement no questions asked. However, this tended to be every couple of months.

The support can be awful though. I have two belkin wireless cards (PCI & USB) which are just a couple of years old and are supported for Windows Vista, but not Windows 7 (and there are minimal driver differences between the two OS's) - the Vista drivers plain don't work on 7, and they won't release new ones.

does this have 4 10/100 ports?
#10
In addition to Wireless N, the router also has four 10/100 Ethernet ports at the back, giving you the option to plug in for a steady and secure, fast connection running at up to 100Mbps.

yes!!

whats a good brand with N to look out for?

this one http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/linksys-wrt320n-wireless-router-all/725261 if you want to have gigabit (1000mb) wired ports is good, not as cheap but does include a usb wireless adapter if you need

thanks

I bought this exact wireless router about 7 months ago when someone posted a deal on here. It was half price in Argos which was £34 odd. As now there were endless posts saying Belkin were rubbish etc but I took the plunge expecting to regret it. I had never set up a wireless network in my life but it took me no more than 10 minutes and the speed and reception have been flawless. I run a desktop via a wired connection and a laptop, netbook, PS3 and 360 via wireless. The router is placed in a back bedroom but i get an excellent reception right through the house and even out in the garden. Brilliant bargain at under £20!

You didn't get what I was meaning. I was pointing out the fact this has no modem. End of.

this or buffalo?
#18
As 'supermandem' asked - I would like to know the more expert members opinions as to 'this or http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/buffalo-wireless-n300-cable-router-/720315' ?

In my case which would work with a cable modem or would either suffice ?

Thanks a lot :)

k750man, i just ended up going for the buffalo if you wanted to know. belkin has VERY mixed reviews, some saying its the best router in the world while others saying its a glorified paper weight, made me feel uneasy so i just went for the buffalo. got no bad reviews so far, ill report back on how it is when ebuyer get it to me (only 2 more days!)
some features of the buffalo appealed more to me aswell, like
Each connected PC or laptop can use different security levels simultaneously.

and
Secure and easy Set-up with AOSS or WPS

hope ive been of some help.
