is "N" standard purely a different frequency, or a stronger signal too ?

i struggle connecting my "G" laptop to my "G" router when the other side of the house, will this give me a stronger signal further away than what the "G" router does ?

TIA

ir2000.
#5
its a lot faster, for gaming and video
#6

I see the modem version has come down in price as well. This is the one I have Very stable and when set up as n only some good distances achieved

I find that belkin routers offer a better signal at distance. I used to have a belkin g router and I could connect to it about 200 metres down the street with my n95

you lucky lot i paid £149 about 18 months ago and its great

great deal

hot!!

can this be used with my AOL Broadband? just not sure what the definition of "cable" broadband is
#12
Belkin F5Z0083UK N Wireless Router + 4-Port Switch With Belkin N Wireless USB Adapter @ Play.com is a better deal. Its 49.99 delivered.

It Includes a Wireless N USB Adapter which retails for 30quid alone.

Does anyone know what the difference between the two routers is? The argos one has three antennas compared to two on the one from play.com. Not sure if performance wise you experience any difference.

Cheers

Three antennas is the MIMO version, offering better range and higher speeds.

Our Vigin installation came with their free Netgear router, would this make a difference to speed - range is not an issue.

Cheers.

Yeh it would. It would be up to 300mbps instead of 54mbps.

Only if you're transfering files wirelessly between machines on your network. It won't do anything for the speed which you can download from the internet at.

Good price

Frustrating that Argos are using the wrong picture for this router in their advert which may confuse some people.

The picture they are using is the ADSL modem version, whereas the Belkin N1 cable router is a smaller unit.

Can anyone that's bought this one confirm that it is indeed the cable version and not the ADSL one with the built-in modem?

cant find this deal.....ignore this...found it, but its not the same router as this...its the older version..

For those that wireless N on your ADSL setup, there's no reason why you can't connect this to your existing ADSL router via cat.5 cable and use the wireless features of this device.

Just disbale the 54Mbps wireless function of your exsting router and jobs a good 'un.

Yes there's advantages and disadvantages to doing it this way, but if its a speed increase you're after it will work quite well
#25
Great price, i have draft "n" laptop, will i see much of a speed increase & are they pretty easy to setup? using a netgear wireless router at the moment with virgin.net
#26
does this have a usb port on it?

Anyone needing the ADSL MODEM ROUTER the £30 discount is applied to both.

http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=1500001501&langId=-1&productId=1500413093

That is the link for the same router but required for a phone-line broadband set up. It's £89.99 down to £59.99. £86.99 on amazon.

Great find OP - Cheers!

I got this at maplins for £35 a year ago (some reason it was on the clearance).

With the matching wifi card (atheros based chipset), its bloody excellent. However I took the wireless card out in the end - the chipset wasnt stable with power saving on, and I was losing a good 1.5hrs battery life with power saving modes off (4.5hrs vs 6hrs).

Other than that, throughput excellent if you pick the right channels and equipment, as is range.
#29
How do these compare to Linksys WRT54GS routers? (Apart from the speed benefit)

Might pick up a couple :)

Depending on what you want to use it for, and what devices you are using. For example those that can't even use N. Plus if you're on about online gaming, I dont think it makes a difference as it can't even make full use of the speed / bandwidth capability it already has. I may be mistaken though.

Replying to myself, there's a Tenda USB N Adaptor at Ebuyer for 9.99 (12.73 inc). Anyone have any experience of these?

I have just brought 1 and set it up. It replaces my Belkin 54g router, I must say the router itself is bigger than you would think. But looks really nice in black and blue lights.
Also when I went to pick it up at argos there price was £48.89 but I quoted the price that I reserved this at was £39.99 so the kind lady confirmed this her collegue and put it through for me.
This will ideally be used for my PS3 and XBOX 360 online gaming. Very happy with it so far and very easy to setup.
