Ah, for fooks sake, I posted out these 2 days ago when I commented about being cheaper than the HDMI cable at Amazon for a £1: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/1-8m-hdmi-cable-1-01-amazon-star-e-shop-1248967#post14826123

Knew I should have posted it :p

    These are probably junk!

I wouldn't even dream of spending sub £50 on a decent HDMI cable.

ok silly question but how exactly do these work?

I want to know how these would benefit me. At the moment I have xbox and ps3 connected through wifi and my tv connected to the interent by ethernet cable using a homeplug.

Would these help change my set up?

If it's not adamantium plated and costs less than £200, I'm oot

ok so I found this link which gives an image of what it would look like but can't see how it would benefit most of us with xboxs' and ps3s' as it looks like the TV is the source that dishes/shares out the interent connection and for somone like me pretty much everything I have has built in wifi and really would want the wifi on the ps3 or xbox to be shared with the TV so I can take the homeplugs off

ok further update apparently the new slim ps3 does support HDMI 1.4 so if you have a tv that also supports HDMI 1.4 then I'm guessing you can use access the interent features on your smart tv without the need for a seperate ehernet cable to your tv

What's the point of having a 50" tv costing a grand connected with an inferior cable.
I'm with mallinersha..... I would pay at least half the price of the tv for good connectivity ! ;)

Yeah likewise I'd pay £500 for a cable...

    A£50 HDMI??

Idiot...digital either works or it doesn't, a £1 cable works the same as a £50 cable.

As long as it rated as 1.3, 1.4 etc it does the EXACT same job.

Even expensive analogue rip offs were questionable as to quality but with digital there is no difference at all, as long as the rating is the same

ok final post hopefully solved it, if my research is correct then the PS3 is HDMI 1.4 and I've got a Sony KDL37EX403U which does not say anywhere online the it is HDMI 1.4 but having just downloaded the instruction manual it has the letters ARC next to HMDI port 1 and http://www.hdmi.org/manufacturer/hdmi_1_4/arc.aspx advise that "•Connect your devices through Audio Return Channel-enabled HDMI ports. HDMI Licensing has strongly recommended that Adopters label all Audio Return Channel-compliant HDMI ports with the letters "ARC" for easy identification, but does not"

so hopefully it means it can work with my set up and I can get rid of my Homeplug system

    I hope that helps someone

well you buy the £500 cable i'll buy the £1 cable i'll hook them up to your tv and watch you sweat on which cable you want to keep and which one i take away . Oh i heard that my four bar socket has better quality cable than the others and that it filters the electric so its cleaner before it gets to the plug producting better results on my shaver

Why though, If you think of HDMI like a network cable. HDMI is a digital signal. Thats like saying Ill never pay less than £50 for a cat 5e network cable when you can buy a perfectly decent one for 79p on ebay. The build quality is probably slightly lacking but the end result is the same.

I never spend more than £3 on an hdmi cable (and I think that was for a 20m one)

Actually, just to be pedantic, network cable does matter. Poorly constructed or terminated cables do result in speed loss, home made cables especially. I get different speeds through the different cables that run through my walls, and after swapping around a lot of equipment I found it to be the cable limiting my speeds.

However, my cables are not made to a standard. If I had cat 5e standard cables, they would all work at the correct speed. If I have a HDMI 1.4 cable, it will work as described in the specification. Yes a £200 cable may give a much higher throughput, but what is the point when your equipment is designed to run with 1.4 standards? Cables do have measurable differences in benchmarks, but in the real world where most of us live there will be no difference in use.

If you can prove a difference then I believe James Randi will give you $1m

So I splashed £9001 on a HDMI cable and the picture quality is lovely jubbly yooz guyz

I think it was The Gadget Show did a comparative test with an £80+ HDMi and a sub £5 HDMi cable. Put them both on the same blue-ray player with the same movie running on the same TV and nobody was able to tell the difference!!

If it don't work, then exercise your consumer rights!! X)
